Seriously, this anime is an amazing show! Why are there so few people that know about it or watch it? I want to read discussions on it but hardly anyone is discussing it! It's such an amazing show, I wish there was more! I would consider reading the manga but that wouldn't have quite the same effect...
I initially started watching it a few years back and stopped after the third episode, I was not too fond of the episodic plot. I picked it up recently as a part of going back to the anime I dropped process, and I must agree- it is beautiful and very unique, and this time round I am appreciating the series a lot more.
If you are looking to discuss anime though, join one of the anime forums on the internet- imdb is not the best place to discuss anime series; part of them are not in the database, and part do not get the attention they deserve- I would recommend animenewsnetwors which focuses on anime and manga...
I think the almost none-violence-thing and the hypnotic-narrative way to tell a wonderful unique story mixed with a meditational way of music isn't everbody's thing. Most Anime-Series are rushing the hell out of it to put many as many information in an episode as u can - not so Mushishi. It takes its time - and it's wonderful watching something like this witch I always liked watching peacefully in the evening.
And Ginko, the main character, is just perfect. Quiet, logical but always with a good soul and a warm heart for the people in the different villages with its different seasons of the year.
I just started it but it is very much like watching an M. Night Shyamalan movie. Good story with a very anticlimactic end. My guess is this is why not everyone is watching. Thoughts?
Lots of great anime go unnoticed from people. Most people think anime and cartoons are for children and childish Take Mushi-shi, Aria, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Evangelion, they are definitely not for children and worth your time..
With all genuine respect for anime in general, I've only really found myself hooked on this one series. And I consider it as a whole one of my favourite things, full stop. It is art. Totally unique atmosphere. A complete world. Remarkable. Of course it should be more widely known. But I think it's probably like some very special things - it drifts along under the radar, out of the reach of the noisy crowd. A bit like a Mushi, I guess... Probably a good thing.
Though I would be happy to watch a second series perhaps...
because it's not as mainstream/popular as most shonen/shojo anime.. but who knows, this anime might be more popular in Japan
Stupid kids like watching cheesy anime like Naruto and Bleach.
I'm 21 and I watched both of them =/ although I prefer the manga and only watched a bit of Naruto Shippuden. As for Bleach, I only watched up to the Aizen/Ichigo fight.
