Is there a name for this type of anime?

I'm finding it harder and harder to say "I like anime" simply because, for the vast, VAST majority of "anime", I do not like. I love this show and I love just about anything by Miyazaki, I love Akira, I love Ninja Scroll, I love Ghost in the Shell.

So is there a name for animes done in that style?... or maybe a name for that other style? And by that I mean the stereotypical anime with characters that practically explode with exaggerated facial expressions or emotions and childishly overt sexual innuendo every five seconds and the end to every episode is some battle scene with epileptic light flashing. Take for example Fullmetal Alchemist. Was really excited to check it out but I don't think I even made it five minutes into it before I turned it off.

Is this a case of japanamation vs anime?

You'd feel cocky too if you were full of myself.

Ha, well that's one way to put it. I'm starting to think this is another one of those cases where there's not quite existing words to describe it... or certain other types of anime. I just did some quick research on types of anime and the categories they seem to officially list don't quite capture what I'm looking for. They all seem to be more about genres than anime style.

For example, there are those types of anime that use the insanely exaggerated, explosive facial expressions and... there are those that don't (or at least very minimally).

You'd feel cocky too if you were full of myself.

It's simply well thought out... if you notice in the last season there are a few of those comedic moments which rely on exaggerated contortions of the body... but this is not to fault anime in general... there's some which have a coherent structure and utilize them, others don't...
