Question - 'What to do with Partner'?

Answer - Never see it again. Watch 'Hitch' instead.

I watched 'Hitch' & 'Partner' when they were released
in the theater.

I liked 'Hitch', however 'Partner' wasn't up to
that mark. Maybe, one or two scenes were funny.

There are those who know that 'Partner' is a copy
of 'Hitch' and there are those who say that 'Partner'
is a great family comedy movie.

It's like this. A movie like 'Hitch' is made.
The audience in India will be of people who know
Will Smith as a rapper, & his acting in the TV show
"Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," to characters in movies
like "Men in Black" & "Independence Day" etc,
and will get most of the dialogue/scenes in the
above mentioned movies, including 'Hitch'.

Now the solution to getting the rest of the Indian
movie going public to watch a movie is to make it
with some well known Indian actors. Sounds like
a good idea.

Ask any ordinary person if they know who Will Smith is
and chances are good that blank stares will be the answer.
Ask the same person who Salman Khan is and the answers will
be a list of his movies, his dance moves, his famous
dialog/lines.

The remake will be done without the salty language,
add in a-family-like-scene, such as where Salman
wants to be in Lara's life and a father to her son.

This is where the producers of 'Partner' went
wrong. Instead of coming up with an original
script and scenes, everyone connected with 'Partner'
was instructed to watch 'Hitch' as homework. And
then those people who are involved get into lawsuits.

Even the script/story for 'Hitch' is as old as
matchmaking and marriage.

Hmmmm - Matchmaking and marriage. How many movies
about those two have been made in India.??

The Indian film industry is in desperate need of new blood.

I respect your intelligent and well put answer. It shows that you have actually put some thought into this. Most people just say that Partner is a rip off of Hitch. You offered an intelligent arguement.

Now. Like you said, the Indian film industry needs new blood.

The Indian film industry also needs to respect their audience.

Why remake Hitch at all? Because if that is what they're doing, trying to make the Indian audiences UNDERSTAND a western movie, then they should be giving part of the profits to the original script writers (the writers of Hitch)

Wouldn't it be much easier to just make an original movie closer to home? With the whole masaledar script etc. etc?

But He's way too young!

Yep, all 18-year-olds are virgins.

Hello dazzling dreamer 2

Thank you for your reply.

I like the questions that you have brought forward
to this topic.

I am sure that there will be movies from the
Indian film industry that are ‘a scene-for-
scene’ copy of a foreign movie (US, UK, etc)
in the coming weeks/months. Will the writers
who came up with the original story get the
monetary credit or an on-screen acknowledgement?
I don’t know, but I hope that they do get something.

But I look forward to the original movies from
the IFI, from people like Aamir Khan, Sanjay Leela
Bhansali, and the many others (actors/actresses,
writers, directors) that all of us admire that can
deliver great stories & performances.

Cheers.
