Partner to be sued in Court for plagiarism

Sony and Will Smith's production company Overbrooks are gonna sue the producers of Partner, K Sera Sera & Eros for ripping off their movie Hitch in UK soon and are asking 30mn dollars for using their theme .

David Dhawan is such a Bad Director, most of the movies past Partner were also ripoffs of many Hollywood Blockbusters. Hitch is really a good movie and I think its ok to make a remake with the sole permission of the producers of Hitch but Dhawan - one of the best comedy directors in India (which I dont agree to)- stole the story, scene, even the dialogues for to make Partner which I think, like in the past Dhawan might have thought he could escape as it wont reach the ears of the Original producers. Salman and Govinda are great actors but as a true actor they should have enquired about the story of the movie before signing on.

I am kinda happy that Sony had taken such a stand because movies which are gonna be made in the future would surely think of copyright permissions etc.

IMDB users, what is your stand on this issue?

Great news! Now hopefully they will start to make original movies!

Or at least crediting the original inspiration .

I have a feeling that will not happen soon, it's just being going on too long (copying films without crediting) despite some excellent original films. There was something about making a remake of Casablanca in the news, WITH permission...it's a start.

yeah its true, the rights of my cousin vinny are indeed bought, coz it wasnt a big film, no big name stars, so the copyright was easy to get

let em try to copy films like matrix (awara pagal dewana - lobby shootout)
and try to buy copyright of franchise films... they will be screwed

do what hollywood does..

1. adapt from BOOKS, easy for copyright, film gets good script

2. adapt comics and chinldrens stuff.. (hanuman was a step in that direction, but please get better animations)

3. adapt foreign films with copyright.. zinda and awarapan were both copied, both flopped coz the copy was too much non indian... better adaptation is needed

4. remake old films... don umrao jaan did it... more will follow

5. make movies out of TV shows.. hum paanch the movie (like simpsons the movie)
charlies angels was also a TV show...

This is YOUR LIFE and it is ending one minute at a time!

My take? Bravo!

I hope this lawsuit sets a very important precedent for the Indian film industry. I find that in certain Indian films if entire Hollywood movies themselves are not copied, plot point elements or dialogue snippets are. I find it absolutely delightful that a Hollywood production is pursuing a multi-million dollar slap on the wrist. Patent attorneys should look retrospectively at other offenders and do the same. There is no excuse for such shoddy, soulless and ultimately immoral filmmaking. It's repulsive that so much money is made off such blatant theft.

Credit source films, their screenwriters and producers and stop passing off unoriginal material as your own!!!

That's ironic considering how Hitch was itself a copy of a 1975 Hindi film called "Chhoti Si Baat". That film was also about a love guru helping a loser get the love of his life, 30 years before Hitch came out.

"WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM???!!!!!"
