Where people in a car were being approached by possibly dangerous individuals. In both cases they turned the ignition off. Then they had to restart in a rush to escape. In real life, they would keep the car running and in the drive position. Just use the brake for crying out loud.

Yep! But in thrillers and horror films, the people sometimes have to do stupid things to move the plot along.

I mean , like in the example given , they could have the car be unreliable and conk out while idling occasionally , rather than have the characters stupidly turn it off.
