Isn't it great to have wonderful location, to film a Russian spy movie not in Finland or any scandinavian country or Canada for that matter but in Moscow. I love seeing those great statues of soviet soldiers, reminded me of another favorites spy movies Russia House Would love to see Moscow with my own eyes.
Like the movie, love the genre. great acting on the part of the 2 main charaters, expecially Emir Kusturica, he carries the movie.
when i was a kid and cold war was at it's peak, people from the west (who lived in europe were afraid to go touring to Moscow as they might any other european city (especially with all those hollywood scenes of people being led out in front of brick walls and being shot being fresh in their minds!)
Then, perestroika happened, and soon there were newspaper headlines of....you guessed it, rival business factions shooting each other in the streets! The lesson of the story is: "don't go to moscow, you'll get shot!" so what's changed? buy some ready made postcards and save some money and your life!! LOL>
(Totally agree, this movie is awesome; gripping to watch).
Yes, I noticed that as during the film as well. I figured out that most of the shots were in Kyiv, with only some standard ones shot in Moscow. The shots of MGU, the Kremlin, and Red Square were obviously shot in Moscow, but notice how none of the actors were actually shown in those bits.

I think the vast majority of the movie was filmed in France and Finland. They didn't get actual permission to film in Moscow because of the film's content (a Russian traitor), but managed to get some second unit stuff to set the scenes etc. 🐭
