I HATED the anime feature!

Excluding all else -that being the series, and the superb animation itself- the story of the anime feature was put together for no other reason than to attempt to make a cartoon "SCARY"
An animation can be riveting, it can be disturbing, it can be unsettling, it can even be disgustingly vile, but it can never be scary. There will always be that disconnect with audiences.
So, if that was the intentions of the original makers, what was the intent for THIS film's creators? I only ask now, before I see it, because I want there to be more perspective than the original's "guiding light" to govern this film's appeal.
Any takers?

It's not a fright film at all. It's basically a monster fight mash up with some good swordplay, but nothing powerful in the script. I have to give it credit for style though. Listening to the dialog and the performances really made me think of the way anime films sound. Sort of "pseudo-noirish" with a spit shine gloss. I enjoyed it for that reason alone, even if the script could have been tightened up a lot. If somebody hated it, I couldn't say I blame them for it. But for what it's worth, I liked it a whole lot more than the anime.

The anime feature was far superiour to the film. It was moody and interesting. I don't quite understand your point.

No, you're right. The anime WAS superior to the film. I can say that with total conviction, having watched it. Yes, I still hate the anime for it's sorry-ass storyline...and it was superior to this film!

It was many years when I first saw the anime and I liked it so much back then. Some years later, due to my fondness for nostalgic things, I thought of re-watching the anime again, which I did. Honestly, I second your opinion for its sorry-ass storyline. I did not quite understand why I was so enthralled with it the first time around. The second poster gave a really good comment as to why. It is stylistic and the mood was set right. In those technical ways, it is superior and its good.

Otherwise, without those elements, it is a flat anime.

I can compare it to that vampire movie with Lycans. I'm a girl but the first time I watched it I loved the mood, the set pieces and Kate Beckinsale. That was many years past. Again, after some years passed I decided to re-watch it again. Again I was baffled as to why I liked it. I think it is stupid or maybe I have seen something similar to it but done better. Possibly the latter.

Anyways, I think Blood: TLV anime is really nice to look at but feels all superficial after the first charm of its viewing.
