Ginza by the end (SPOILERS)

Anyone else feeling that Ginza ending up with Dr Ryougoku was a bit of a cheat? They never even knew each other throughout the series!

Plus the good doctor didn't seem to have the necessary 'outgoing' personality needed to attract a woman like Ginza, like Saiga had. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Ginza was trying to change at the stage but still, how much can you really change your tastes in partners?

It should have been Ginza and Saiga together, they had the hots for each other, whatever Saiga said. Getting together with a teenager? As Bob pointed out, she was still going to be in the bloom of her life when he had reached the elderly stage, so it was unfair for Saiga to keep her to himself when he knew they could only have a limited future together.

When darkness overcomes the heart, Lil' Slugger appears...

The ending implied otherwise. She was 20 at the end, and returns to him after 5 years apart. The age difference was pretty much dissipating at that point. He couldn't be older than his early 20s during the war (and likely was a 18 or so when he went to war) so 10 years later he'd only be 30 or so. Him 30, her 15, yeah he was twice her age. But 5 years later she's 20 and he's 35.

Cradle robbing for sure but not exactly an old man.

While Ginza seemed infatuated with Saiga, she never really seemed to love him. I mean, her reaction to him saving someone's life is to sell the girl back to the abusive mother and rape Saiga and imprison him. Her intentions were not all that loving.

I do get how it would seem the doctor didn't make a good fit, but if you imagine the 3 of them leaving Japan together for their safety, spending years together, she probably grew to love him. Meanwhile as non "outgoing" as he seemed from the beginning you have to remember he was a combat medic and didn't shy away from adventure. When he was first introduced he was enjoying a more peaceful life but he wasn't always so reclusive. Hell of all of Saiga's friends, he's the only one who managed to amass a series of support networks to help Saiga out. Every other character would let Saiga sleep on his couch but the good doctor went ahead on his own and got a geneticist to connect him with a minister and get the minister to get a foreign nation to get him diplomatic cover. Not exactly sitting on his hands type.
