Why did they change the theme song!?!?

Well, it's still the same song

but, why is Darby singing it now?!??!!

reply

Perhaps they have to pay Kay Hanley, the singer of the original theme, everytime they play it and so to cut the budget...

reply

Well I think it sounds nice and after all they are Her Friends Tigger and Pooh!

We have the English Darby singing it over here.

I don't know, but I'm glad they did. Hearing the original was like having needles stabbing into your eardrums. It's almost unbearably perky as it is, but with that cutesy cheerleader delivery, it was murder. The little girl, yeah, her I can deal with.

The interesting thing is that they changed it across the board-- they're even using the alternate theme and opening sequence in repeat broadcasts of first season episodes. (Though I've heard that in certain other markets, they're still using the original theme for these.) They forgot to edit the closed-captioning, though.

reply

But there's still one episode from the first season where they still have the original voice, even in reruns.

I also laugh at some of the captions for older episodes where is says Avery or Darcy instead of Darby, like Disney changed the name later.

reply

Oh, closed-captioning is a hoot. Who knows whether it was something Disney did or if whoever was doing the closed-captioning just doesn't have the right info. I always keep closed-captioning on when watching TV-- it's very interesting to pick something up (sometimes stuff they never wanted you to see) and, besides, I'm a reader. Reading along enhances my enjoyment of the show.

You're telling me, I was watching a music video on tv once, and I had the captions on so I wouldn't mishear something. While the video was playing, two guys were talking back and forth, planning to go out and eat later that night! I just sat there like o.0
