Decision to not air the third episode killed the show?

I just discovered the Black Donnellys. I just finished the "never aired" third episode and I do not understand why they never aired it. I'm sure it made the plot hard to follow for broadcast viewers and led to the low ratings.

Can anyone explain how this episode was more violent than any of the others? I just don't get it.

I'm a big fan of Hannibal and they did something similar with s1e4 of the show. It almost killed that show too.

What is it with NBC seemingly randomly refusing to run episodes of freshmen shows?

I'm loving the Black Donnellys so far. Too bad that it did not get the network support it deserved.

I understand. Thank you for telling me. -The masked bandit

That's why NBC struggles. They finally have a show that is as riveting as ER was at its peak, but device to dump everything into ER and sabatoge this show (citing violence) I guess because they thought they cornered the weekly drama. Then Grays Anatomy killed ER and everything good died on NBC. TBD should have been an HBO show anyways.

That's not what killed the show. I watched this on TV when it came out. It aired at 10pm on Tuesdays which was A TERRIBLE TIME SLOT.. It had no advertising and then they switched it to Wednesdays half way through the season and aired it at 11pm. It was like they were trying to kill the show.
