I just came back from Amsterdam.
In short.. it's alright for a watch, but certainly not a masterpiece.

Basicly what happens is this:
A man is on his way home to his little daugher and wife. He stumbles upon a gang beating up an innocent man. He decides to help the man and beats up all the gang members. Then the gang leader decides to stalk his family and kills the little daughter. Not much later the man's wife decides to commit suicide. At this point the man realizes that his life is ruined and kinda goes beserk. He tries everything to trace the gangs location in order to kill them.

Note that everything is very straight forward and most (if not all) of it you will see coming from a mile away. With a running time of ~120mins, i think 90 mins would have suit much better because it is dragging on way too long. Compare this movie with something like Death Wish, but add drama and psychological factors.

Yes psychological factors, because the interesting thing is that the movie seems to be some kind of charge on our society. The way things go and how people care. (or not care)

Bad thing was that Dejima received some kind of promotional dvd from the distributor. They were projecting this on a big screen which undoubtly lead to horrible interlacing and a very blurred image. Also the color pattern of the dvd was pretty fooked. In other words, just a bad master....
Quite annoying and this really made me sometimes wonder if Miike really wanted to have this blurred cinematography or if it was just the crappy dvd.

Either way, when you have a chance to watch this movie surely do. But don't expect big things to happen. It's not Dead or Alive, it's not Ichi the Killer and it's not Graveyeard of Honor. In fact... its a pretty low budget movie, but it's good for what it does....

Btw, the international title is 'Sun Scarred'
