Yeah, doesn't make much sense. Unless they were trying to say the original film took place 20 years before or this one takes place 20 years later. I don't know, I didn't bother paying close enough attention to figure that one out.
Honestly, they would have been better off not even making that character Jake at all. All the forced references from the first one, "you got the eyes, don't you?" his dads guitar, drinking tons of OJ, blah blah blah. It just made me cringe, as I'm sure it did others. Even more so that the character basically just grow up to claw his own eyes out and now lives in a psychic crackhouse.
I didn't even finish the film. Original was great, this one was the poster film for bad b-movie and unnecessary sequel.
Movie time isn't really the same as real time. Just because he was 6 in 1999 doesn't mean the movie was set in 1999. Best way to think about it, really.

Scary Movie is a parody comedy movie. It's not meant to be serious or behave as if it's real life.
This movie IS meant to be serious, just no one in production of this giant turd of a story gave a s**t
