I just saw this at a film festival in Minneapolis, and I understand that "Jar City" is the place where they keep all the anatomical specimens.
However, what does "Myrin" mean? The people in the movie seemed to call the place with anatomical specimens something else in Icelandic.

Mýrin means "the swamp". I'm not really sure why they decided on an English title of "Jar City" - it's interesting how the titles in different languages mean two totally different things from different parts of the movies. I've noticed this is the case with many other foreign movies as well...
shareI think OP was asking a little bit different question, movie is called Myrin but I never in whole movie heared word Myrin, when it appeared in subtitles htey said something different in icelandish, so dunno why they used Myrin and why there was not in subtitles correct translation instead Myrin.

shareIt is of course not known officially as "The Swamp" and bog or wetlands would probably describe it better. Officially it's a part of Austurbær (Easttown) and was built on drained wetlands around the middle of the 20th century. The characteristic bad concrete houses made out of holey volcanic rock and covered with some kind of stone dominates the area.

Well the neighborhood was called Norðurmýri (Northswamp) cause the place is basically built on top of a swamp

Jar City is a better English title than The Swamp I think cause you wouldn't understand why it's called The Swamp hehe.
Northswamp would've been an interesting English title, I think. The movie definetely has a dark sinister swampy film. I think Jar City sounds like a sci-fi movie or something.
shareI was told it translated to "the marsh", and in the German title, the word used can be translated to moor/marsh/swamp/bog/fen etc (Der Tote aus Nordermoor - Death from the Northmoor)

In finnish the movie is called "räme" which is a specific type of swamp that's common here. Wikipedia defines it as swampy land with lot of pines, but I suspect it was chosen for the movie purely on the basis that it's an interesting, slightly mysterious sounding word as opposed to the more common "swamp" aka "suo".
