Well, as of today it's still listed as being "in development" on IMDb. You'd think 6 yrs. would be plenty of development time for a U.S. remake of a movie that had already been made in another country.
As for originality, not enough Americans support it given the big bucks Hollywood lays out to get films made. The profits from very big hit have to cover the losses of all the misses. I've been reading a lot of remembrances of Robin Williams, God rest his soul, and the movies people are recalling don't include the more original films he was drawn to make such as The Night Listener, Insomnia, and One Hour Photo. These are interesting movies with good cast members around him, plus they had the draw of his name, but they didn't succeed financially. If you're lucky enough to live near an independent movie house please do all you can to support it because that's where young or adventurous American filmmakers (as well as foreign ones) get a shot.
