I love this movie for the MOST part...

A few scenes bothered me:

The party scene played the worst kind of music ever. Whoever ran the party had really bad taste. "Taking Heads" and trash like that. Put on some Patsy Cline, pleeease!

The scene where Lars is yelling at Bianca and arguing seems as if he may be psychotic, and beyond simple delusional

The scene where Lars is chopping wood with an axe and his sister-in-law is yelling at him. I cringed to think if he had gone bezerk with the axe would be a horrific thought. She kept egging him on that way.

I don't like how the woman says "are you gay?" Just because a guy is single and doesn't have a girlfriend doesn't mean he is gay. That is sort of rude to ask. Years ago, no would ever think that. But now, (thanks in part of the gay agenda) any man over 21 who isn't chasing every skirt in town is thought to be queer.

Anyways, that is my take. Loved the movie over all. Not slow , IMO. Pacing was just right.

To be fair, you don't know what Bianca said to get that reaction out of him.

Try not to worry about it.

Wait.....ARE YOU GAY?

i have to say it seems as if you thought of Ryan Gosling's character as really crazy like you couldn't trust him... which is alright it just kind of says something about the way you handle mental disorders. like, when you said you were nervous he was gonna go crazy with the axe, i didn't feel that way at all. he wasn't menacing to me. he was troubled and nice. i don't think you should link a mentally different state to being potentially violent. being scared of him because he's different isn't really the answer in my opinion. And as for the "are you gay?" question, to be quite frank with you that's you considering being gay an insult. She was just asking. Ryan's character didn't seem to get offended. sometimes people are gay. it happens. no biggie. anyway yeah i liked the movie too (to end this post on a good note i guess haha).

Blame Ryan Gosling! Apparently he picked the music and actually brought Talking Heads along to the studio, who then proceeded to use it.

Considering Lars's state of mind, a good choice I thought.šŸ

the filmmakers needed to clear away the gay idea early just so the audience wouldn't think the movie was about homophobia or closetedness.

What exactly is ā€œhomophobiaā€? Iā€™m straight and I donā€™t have a fear of homosexuals, nor do any straight men I know. I think the proper term should be ā€œhomo-abhorrentā€. No straight man gets turned on by another manā€™s hairy backside. The thought of that is abhorrent.

You're about 20 years late with that argument.

I'd much rather be at a party where Talking Heads is being played over Patsy Cline. And I LOVE Patsy Cline, but Heads is party music. Cline you should actually listen to. Should listen closely to TH also, there is a lot going on, but at least they have good beats and rhythm. Cline is completely different.
Your comment about the axe wielding Lars is silly. Unlike so much random violence we perceive to be going on around us, this movie wasn't about that.
I've had people ask me if I was gay. Not very often but a couple times. I'm polite, a little awkward with attractive women, don't wear baseball caps or a groaty goatee and a wife-beater tee. But if people knew what's going on in my mind, they certainly wouldn't wonder. Guess I'm just not that attractive (sigh).
Don't know about this "gay agenda." You sound like either a troll or not very thoughtful, sort of immature.
And I apologize for saying so. I really enjoy this movie, and it's fun to talk about.
