Lars & the Real Girl, Half Nelson, Blue Valentine is his best work. Now he is doing films like Gangster Squad, Crazy Stupid Love, Only God Forgives. Wish he would go back to those small films which shows that he is a fabulous actor.

I think it's a matter of taking a risk again on a script by a filmmaker or writer who isn't really well known and has an original story. When actors become established, they tend to work with the same people, and take less risks. Nic Refn's movies are obviously risky seeming, but nothing about Gosling's acting in Only God Forgives is expanding his talent or illuminating anything, like he did in those three performances you mentioned. It is just too repetitive.

shareI think his role in Crazy Stupid Love further proves his greatness as an actor. He's so known for playing the quiet sensitive type. So the fact that he was so perfectly believable playing such an arrogant, insensitive, exploitative character continues to build the case for what a great actor he is and how versatile he can be.
