A defense for homosexuality? (Spoilers)

So the ending of this movie was totally shocking (and maybe undelightful) to see, right?

I think that this twist coincides with how we view sexuality: we would not expect a love between two men to be so strong and passionate. We would expect to see a mother save her son... a brother to save his twin... or even a scumbag to save his grandmother... BUT- to see a man save his male lover?

I think this twist was one of the biggest twists I've seen in a movie, for this reason only. This movie teaches us that their love could be this strong too, and it SHOULD be taken seriously...

Hence, the reason why we did not expect the twist coming is directly linked to our lack of empathy for homosexual love.

P.S. no, I'm not gay lol, I just feel that society should grow up and start accepting people for what they are worth as human beings, and not subjugate them for their sexual preference

Can I be your friend? Yours is a very different reaction on this part of the film to most people who've posted on here!

reply

lol, sure we can

but i've noticed that... at first i wasnt too fond of the twist, but then i stepped back and realized that i was just apart of the social experiment the creators of The Killing Gene were doing, and i thought it was brilliant and enlightening as well

good post OP

I don't think many people noticed this.

Agreed man! because of that twist...

we have talked about this movie more than an hour right after it finishes...

Even if I dissaprove what you think! I will defend your right to say it!

i liked it because of the same reason,
that was a great twist

(though the film itself was mostly just mediocre,
sometimes even really bad)

the only problem,
maybe he decided to die not just because he loved him really.
maybe it was not this "ultimate love".
maybe it was also because he didnt want to live that way anymore.
that he had no dick anymore is not the only reason for this.
he maybe didnt want to go into jail (as a cop maybe the ultimate shame and as a cop maybe extraordinary uncomfortable future)
or he didnt want to live that way, that he has to hide his homosexuality, anymore
maybe it was a moxture of some of this reasons
and so on....

we dont know what was going on inside of him

so at the end, maybe it was also not the ultimate love.
even not here.
though, even the shame-explaination would be a good socio-political one

reply

i mean maybe his decision had two reasons
- my beloved should live
AND
- i dont want to live anymore
(because of my future or because how the society acts with homosexuals)

maybe not both reaons for 100%
but together strong enough to make this decision

its possible!
we dont know what was going on inside of him

It was not shocking, it could only been one or two reasons why he cared so much for Danny at that point, either it was his illegitemate son or his lover

And although I guess it's good that you learned to be a little more understanding towards gays, I can't say that I learned anything that I didn't already know... But it's of course good if it does to people who are a bit closet minded

We crash into each other, just so we can feel something.

I'd hope most people aren't as slow as you, because how didn't you pick up on the gayness long before the end? The old queen cop was way too concerned about the overly emotional young black man-whore.

This movie teaches us that their love could be this strong
What movie were you watching? The man-whore admitted he used the old cop to keep him out of jail and I don't think it's such a touching love story when Jean Lerner points out that the old cop propositioned the man-whore asking sexual favors in exchange for keeping him out of jail.

Also your talking glowingly about two characters, one of which, sabotaged the states case against the animals that destroyed Jean Lerner and her mother, only because he had a sexual interest in the man-whore, and the man-whore was actually an accomplice to the sadistic attack on Jean Lerner and her mother. To quote Kevin Spacey's "John Doe" character from Se7en "Only in a world this *beep* could you even try to" portray this as a beautiful love.
