Intense, adult thriller

I saw this intense thriller at Frightfest in London. Although Waz contains enough plot twists and general nastiness to keep horror fans happy, this is a rather more grown-up and intelligent affair than your average shocker, its tone closer to Se7en than to Hostel or Saw. Having said that, Waz isn't without its moments of grim, offbeat humour.

Good turns from all the cast, with a knockout performance from Selma Blair, who is both creepy and sympathetic. I suppose credit for that role lies equally with writer Clive Bradley, who provides a fresh and thought-provoking perspective on what could have been just another serial-killer flick.

So, if you want to see a thriller that is both interesting and genuinely shocking, see Waz when it's released (January 2008?). Apparently, at least one viewer passed out during the final reel; what more recommendation do you need?

It was very intense and definitely very adult. I thought it was OK but quite depressing.
