Why is Sami (Daniel) so absent from the film?

I heard he had medical problems?
Whenever you see him he is more or less motionless mostly sitting in his taxi, sometimes standing. Without his energy the film sucks!

He's been in and out of jail and hospital for the last few years. Possession of cocaine, assault, suicide attempt, drunken driving etc. Problems started already in 2000 and he was charged 4 times between 2000 and 2003 for various crimes. In January 2007, he had an overdose of pills and went to hospital where apparently he treated the nurses who treated him like s**t.

It's too bad he's one of these actors who can't handle being a movie star and not do something better in he's life with the success he's had.

And yes, Taxi 4 would have been so much better if Sami had been in the same physical and psychological condition as in the first few films.

Oh dear.

I'm a fan of the other films and I'm planning on getting the fourth film on DVD. Is Sami really in a bad condition? Is it noticeable in the film?

reply

No, Sami pretend to be in good condition is the film. He smile, tells jokes. His face does not reflect any trouble. He just not present on the screen as many as he was in the previous films.

IMO, he's too old for the role now. He looks so different from the first Taxi. He lost all his ardour, it's not fun anymore to watch him in this role.
