What the **** is a Sleep Dealer?
I'm not sure if i didn't pay close enugh attention to the trailer but what is a sleep dealer?
The node factories, like the one where Memo works, are known among their staffs as "sleep dealers" because the shifts are so long that the workers tend to fall asleep. The factories work you 'til you pass out--they deal sleep to you.
I didn't quite buy the title because it is explained so quickly as to almost be an afterthought, and then we only see one person fall asleep.
You might be able to dig a little deeper into meaning of the name "sleep dealer", in that in many ways each character was only halfway living in a semi dreamlike state between the nodules and real life. it took the power of the nodules to bring them together and break them out of the sleep/dream like state that had been dealt to each of them and in a sense wake them up into possibilities they had never considered . Maybe I'm stretching too far in my interpretation, lol...

Perhaps earlier on he had a slightly different idea in mind when he came up with the name. In earlier cyberpunk novels by William Gibson, there was a technology where workers in a certain "service industry" would perform their work while jacked into a system that ran their bodies like marionettes while they remained unconscious of it. Of course, he attributes the main theme of the movie to an article that appeared in Wired magazine. But, you may recall a line from the movie that reflected the meat-puppet idea as well-- "When you connect with the otherside, sometimes you run the machine, sometimes the machine runs you" or such-- although we never saw any of this except maybe some weirdness in the bar.
