Why wouldn't she just be friends with him?

If she had just been friends with him, everything probably would have been ok.

He didn't make any gravy to go with turkey and mashed potatoes. Why would she want to be friends with someone like that?

Consider her situation. She was working late on Christmas Eve in New York and had a family gathering to attend which she was already late for. Then her car won't start. The guard took advantage of her situation and had he chose a different way to get acquainted, she might have been more friendly, although she probably would see him as beneath her.

He seems like the clingy sort that attatch themselves to people. I doubt if she had gone along with him it would have done her much good. I think he would have tried to get her into bed or keep her locked up for even longer.
