I don't care how pissed off Nichol's character was, she had no right killing the dog. Even if the dog had Bentley as an owner, the dog just acted on instinct. Bitch.

I'm not supporting animal cruelty, but in this situation she had no choice. This was hardly a defenseless animal that was trying to attack her, but rather a vicious one carrying out his master's wish. If there was another way to subdue the dog she could have tried but she was reacting on adrenaline and fear so she didn't have time to think, just to react.

Exactly saying "down boy" wouldn't have worked, I hate dogs, but I'm not exactly supporting animal cruelty, hell I hate little kids, but I'm not supporting child abuse at all. Besides it's only a movie, she didn't REALLY kill it.

I love dogs and hate to see them hurt and/or killed, but to be honest if one was about to kill me...I'd have to defend myself somehow. I would try my best to get away without harming the dog, but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do to survive. What would you do, just let the dog chew you up and kill you?

Oh please. You've gotta be kidding me. The dog was gonna maul her to death if she didn't defend herself. You'd do the same if you were in her situation. Anyone without a death wish would.

My only issue is... If Wes' character had wanted her to stay with him and be with him, why would he set his dog after her if he KNEW the dog would just kill her?

He may have been trained to take down rather than kill, but that still would have incapacitated her against there guard. that's how I always figured it anyways.

When you're 17 a cow can seem dangerous and forbidden...am I alone here?

Probably because people see animals as innocent as in they don't understand evil the way humans do.

However, as an animal lover I have to say, I would have done the same thing. It was tearing her to shreds and if she didn't kill it eventually it would have killed her. It's not like she killed it right away or even enjoyed doing it, at first she tried hiding and when that failed she did what she could to survive.

I completely understand why.
