Mother of Tears vs. The Stendhal Syndrome
Plain and simple, which one is better?
shareis that a joke? if you're asking which one is better, between mother of tears and stendhal syndrome, then the answer is that The Stendhal Syndrome is better. by a huge margin.
if it's a joke, though, the answer is that mother of tears is better. more breasts in mother of tears.
Its no joke I saw MOTHER OF TEARS the other day and I'm waiting for a DVD copy I ordered of STENDHAL SYNDROME, just wanted to know which one is more popular since I don't really know who Dario Argento is aside from he makes horror movies, MOTHER OF TEARS was the first Argento film I saw, guess I should've been more clear, sorry about that.
shareGot to go with "The Stendhal Syndrome", in my humble opinion it's his best work in his later years. I very much prefer the Italian language dub to the english one, which is rather shabby. Almost envy you in having yet to discover the maestro's films; have fun.
shareWhy thank you, from what I heard about the man I'm sure it will be tons of fun for me.
shareStendhal Syndrome all the way. Though it´s far from being my favorite from Argento, it´s still a very good effort, and probably his last great film. Mother of Tears is a stupid mess.
The theater is like a faithful wife. The film is the great adventure, the costly, exacting mistress
It pains me to say that The Stendhal Syndrome by far the better movie, even if it can't be counted among his better films. Story and acting is a mess here too, but Dario delivers some powerful scenes here and there. Not to mention that the music, which is written by Moriccone, adds a lot to the atmosphere.
sharePersonally, I believe that The Stendhal Syndrome is the only masterpiece he did after Opera. Plus Asia's performence is great! Not so-so like her's in Mother of Tears.

SLEEPLESS is next on my list along with TRAUMA and TENEBRE, I'm eagerly waiting for them as we speak.
shareThe Stendhal Syndrome is fairly underrated as Argento films go. It's obviously nowhere near as good as his work from 1970 to 1988, but it's enjoyable enough as a psychological thriller, and has a fairly fearless and committed performance from Asia that almost overcomes the limitations of the script.
I'm still not sure how I feel about Mother of Tears. It was surely dreadful, but I enjoyed it in the way that I enjoy a Fulci film; just a collection of vicious gore-scenes crudely strung together.
Obviously, with this in mind, Stendhal Syndrome is better.
Stendhal Syndrome is his only great post-Opera film. This is unwatchable.
