Argento made a fun movie
Unfortunately, that's not what fans expected to close the trilogy.
It's unfortunate that this wasn't a stand alone picture because it would have fared much better if it weren't up against Suspiria and Inferno.
Agreed. I found the movie fun despite the horrible acting, mostly bad special effects, and ridiculous ending. I think this was Argento's point though.
Originally his movies were thought of as scary and horrified audiences but now audiences have been so jaded to blood and gore and brutality that they just laugh at them and consider the violence and gore for lack of a better term "awesome" rather then disturbing or horrific.
I think it's just Argento way of giving us the middle finger and saying "You think I'm just a goremiester" Well take all the gore you can swallow as that's all that i am to you now. My version of horror can no longer disturb you anymore so I'll make this so-over-the-top and ridiculous you'll just laugh and cheer at it's brutality and gruesomeness.
Stylistically, I'd say "Jenifer" has been my favorite of the post-"Opera" era.
Also, on the ending. I think it fits with the overall tone of the picture. Despite it's over-the-top nature, I still prefer it to "Inferno"'s ending, which was one of the most anti-climactic things I've seen.
