Not Boring. The opposite in fact...
I really liked this film, reminds me of the older subtler days of Hollywood. Not only is it set in a period the movie actually parodies films of the period.
Compared to todays movies, a lot of the scenes seem excessive since nowadays we are used to character actions driving the story rather than emotions and motives.
This is about personal conflict in a time when social values were changing. Brosnans play at the dinner "Love is very old fashioned" and Cooper pondering about the existance of god, Clarkson portraying a very modern and liberated woman. Although the film focuses more on the lives and emotions of the main four characters.
If you think entertainment should be more cars doing sumersaults and people jumping out of the windows of burning buildings then obviously this film is not going to be for you at all.
Personally I think Chris Cooper is a very accomplised actor and demonstrated that brilliantly in this film. Just watch American Beauty and Married Life back to back and tell me this man does not deserve yet more oscars.
