Don driving the kids through a race riot

Was anyone cracking up when Betty demanded Don pick up the kids during the social unrest following Dr. King 's assassination? Her reasoning was out there, did it occur to her someone could have gotten hurt?

Nah, she doesn’t think like that despite being married to the relatively decent Henry Francis, who himself had to deal with the unrest as a result of his job... It was just another way for her to needle Don and put him at an inconvenience, just one of the joys for Betty, who is rarely ever happy....

I recall Sally brought a HS friend over who was a violinist. Later, Betty and Henry were discussing how pretty the girl was. Out of the blue, Betty asked her husband if he wanted her to tie and gag the girl so that he could rape her? I will never forget the WTH look he gave her. He also rightfully reprimanded her for thinking he was a closet pervert.

That was strange. Part of me just wants to chalk it up as a couple engaging in some weird and demented humor, but really it’s just Betty trying to get a rise out of Henry. After all, they got together under dubious circumstances, so maybe they both enjoyed joking like that.

*Spoilers ahead *

It was interesting to see the arc of the Henry character. He went from a drunk at country club shindig requesting to rub a pregnant woman’s belly to a pretty stable and decent husband and father figure. And just before Betty’s diagnosis, even he was beginning to get tired of all her bullshyt.

Good episode.
