What this series does with the Hate and now love is amazing

I finished watching this series over the month watching a couple of episodes each night. the first time i watched the series it was over the 9 years it aired. so I got to watch it all in full over a month.

It is amazing how just about EVERY single character at one point you completely hate.. then you love them and feel sorry for them.

I think Don in Season 3 is at his complete nasty worst and he is a complete prick all round. and you can't stand him. but come the start of season 7 you start rooting for him again and feel sorry for him and his job back.

Look at the other characters Peggy was the only likable one early on. then she turned into Don later on.

Pete well we all know this one it's a roller coaster with him

Rodger is a complete womanizer, funny as hell though. but hard to actually like as a person, but I found my heart breaking for him with his daughter when he tried to get her to come back.

Joan I found her a slutty bitch at times. and then other time felt for her. I hated her most when she voted Don out. just because of the Jaguar thing and he was the ONLY person that told her not to do it and go ahead with it. yet she wanted him out for costing her money so how could I feel sorry for her selling her body for that?

Anyway the list goes on what does everyone else think of other characters and did their mood change along the way?

I never disliked Don. He was the center of the show and his dilemmas were the story. I never sympathized with Betty but maybe I should have. She seems to like $$ so she ends up with the lifestyle she's accustomed to. I liked Peggy but her taste in men wasn't very good. Now Pete was pretty dislikeable at least when I didn't feel sorry for him. His marriage kinda sucked.

Great point. The characters and (slow burn) character development was amazing on this show.

Another is Harry, I liked him a lot in S1. In fact he was one of the few decent men in the office. Then, over time, he became loathsome.

Ken started out bad, then became the only shining example of integrity, and then slipped and fell into the muck towards the end. I hoped for a better ending for him in the finale, but oh well.

I disagree with you about Joan, because Don was acting like an entitled a** and cost them all by making a unilateral decision. Which he was known for. By the time Don told Joan not to do it, it had already been done. She thought everyone wanted her to do it for the company, including Don and Roger, because Pete told her so.

Yeah I just got tired of Ken's character in general in the later seasons, and just never really cared for what was going on with his character later on.

Harry ended up turning into a dirtbag more and more as the series went on. Crazy to think he was originally going to be called off after season 1.

You didn't find his getting stuck with those Chevy guys out in Detroit, finally getting to come back, exacting revenge on Pete, then having an epiphany and almost escaping it all to do what he was meant to be a compelling story line, with some great humourous moments? What about injured, high-as-a-kite tap dancing Ken? Come on! :D

Yes, Harry had an amazing character arc, from start to finish. I thought they were going to go in a different direction with him in season 1, with his description of the photography he did in college and the hand stencils in the caves. Oh well, the direction they went in was good, I just wished they'd used the "Harry has more depth than you'd think" angle.

Ahhh the Ken high as a kite tap dancing scene was definitely one of the funniest scenes, I'll give him that.
