it's TV... it happens to all long running shows...
Mad Men is one of the best TV shows ever made, but would probaboy have been even better if it was a mini-series...
He should have married Cara Buono's character instead. She was a professional -- an adult -- whose only real drawback was she didn't connect with Don's kids the way he had envisioned. Megan, while better with kids than Betty, was essentially Betty all over again (only the actress playing Megan was much worse than January Jones).

But that's exactly why he didn't, and wouldn't, marry her. It would have been out of character for him.
Agreed, Megan was essentially only a modernised version of Betty. (And I thought Jessica Pare was terrible as Megan.)
