cancelling amazon prime because of this message board debacle

I don't blame you. If I had Amazon Prime, I'd do the same thing. Kudos!

I just canceled my prime membership a few minutes ago because of this. I can't recommend what anyone else should do, but doing nothing simply provides tacit approval of IMDb's short-sighted decision.

What does Amazon free shipping have to do with IMDB?

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

Amazon owns IMDb.

On the other hand, Prime is an excellent service that gives an incredible amount of bang for the buck. A strange hill to die on.

I didn't realize Amazon owns IMDB. Interestingly, there used to be message boards for books, but I think they've phased them out as well. I never signed up for Prime as I record a lot of movies on my DVR and usually have a number to watch. As for the shipping, I put things in my cart or wish list and then use the free shipping when I have enough. It's seldom that I need something right away.

I didn't realize Amazon owned IMDB. And while I used to do the same thing maggie where I'd add to a cart until I had enough for shipping, now my sister lets me use her Prime account and it's nice. Still, I don't get the point in cancelling Prime because of this. Do you think Amazon will really feel the pinch? They are doing really well, so they really aren't going to care. If you don't like Prime, by all means cancel, but as some protest or rebellion, it's going to go completely unnoticed by Amazon and anyone at IMDB, so it doesn't make sense to punish oneself if it's a useful service because of this.

I thought you knew Amazon owned IMDb, and was puzzled by why you'd wonder that someone canceled their $100 a year subscription as a result of what IMDb has decided, which includes free shipping, along with other perks.

Whether or not Amazon will feel any significant pinch due to those who are angry about this decision about these boards and what has become a community, or not, I don't know.

I will say there's no way in h3ll I'm going to create a Prime account on Amazon as a result of this action. They (meaning Amazon) do care about money, which is the real reason for this action, so if they notice a drop in Prime memberships, and if IMDb notices a significant drop in traffic, they'll realize they made the wrong decision.

Does that mean they'll reverse this decision? Probably not. But who, at the end of the day, needs Amazon Prime? I don't.

Cancelling Amazon Prime because they closed your precious message boards? That's utterly pathetic.

Get help.

reply

Keeping Amazon Prime due to the elimination of the boards, and its irrational posters who proselytize nothingness.

Most apparent on the MM boards, those who never lived the 60's or have a true desire to understand the era.

(Yes Whiney your interviews with Allison gave way to who you really are.)

It is kinda funny that people act like getting rid of a few hundred Amazon Prime contract or even 300 or so users quit using IMDB that they're going to have any actual effect over the sales/member use.
