Can anybody

recommend a good show to replace Mad Men ? Need a good show to get into.

What kinds of other shows do you like? That'd be a good jumping off point to get an idea of what your taste is...

reply

Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Dexter, Longmire, Justified, SIX, and Hell On Wheels. And many more. Especially shows with a twist in the plots.

reply

How about Fargo? I think that might fit in with the style and tone of some of the ones you mentioned and it does certainly have its twists and turns throughout the two seasons. In my opinion, it's an excellently crafted show.

reply

I own that one too. I like to buy shows when they come out on blueray. I like to play with my home audio equipment.

reply

Ah, so you've seen it? Well, makes sense to me, hence why I suggested it haha....um maybe something like Rectify?

reply

I tried Rectify. Seemed to slow for me. I'm thinking of giving it another try.

reply

It is a slow show, I never actually finished it myself! Okay...I'll throw out another one, lol, The Americans?

reply

Just waiting for it's return. :)

reply

Got to admit I like Twin Peaks. And I'm a rare one who liked Wayward Pines.

reply

Oh okay...I wasn't sure if you were more into the weirder, surreal side of things since the ones you mentioned weren't up that alley all too much. That opens it up a bit!

Hannibal, maybe?

reply

I do like dark shows.

reply

Hannibal is definitely dark and surrealistic in aspects while at the same time I could see it sitting, perhaps a bit awkwardly, alongside the list you already gave above.

Plus, it's just a gorgeous show!

reply

Watching SIX finale now. Good show.

Saw Deadwood. It was ok. Might try again while I recover from pneumonia. Got time on my hands now. LOL !

Halt and Catch Fire is the only show so far that's helped scratch my Mad Men itch. Someone on the old MM board described it something like it having the soul of Mad Men, and for me it does.

Lee Pace stars in it, and IMO he's a brilliant actor. I was pleased to note, somewhere around S2, a number of writers and others who formerly worked MM were working on HACF.

One thing to bear in mind is it only really hits stride mid-way through the first season.

reply

I always give new shows at least 4 episodes before I decide. Thanks for the inputs folks.
