It's kind of a boring story
I couldn't get past half an hour, it was extremely boring. If i was a depressed teenager this movie could make want to shoot myself.

shareNone of it was boring and it is one of my all-time favorite movies.
"I am invincible!" -Boris Grishenko, Goldeneye
I was expecting the kind of a funny part, and halfway through the movie, I realized the title was a hoax, like the movie "Funny People" which had no funny people.
shareI was fooled also into thinking there would be some humor in this movie - somewhere! But it wasn't even "kinda funny". It was just ok - nothing great or inspiring either. If I was a teenager myself, maybe I'd have liked it more, but to be honest I just didn't give a crap about this boy and his little problems, although I do remember what I went through in my overly-dramatic teen years. So, for me it was just ok - I wouldn't recommend it though and I wouldn't sit through it again.
"Are you going to your grave with unlived lives in your veins?" ~ The Good Girl
It wasn't a great movie by any means, but I thought it was alright. I think the whole point was watching the kid realize that he didn't really have as big of a problem as he thought, so I don't think we were meant to actually feel for him and the pressure he faced. He finds out it is something every single kid goes through. Including his all-star best friend. I loved all of the supporting characters.
The way Zach was hanging around at the end just watching the pizza party - I was honestly expecting the movie to end with him actually killing himself.
It's impressive to see a man feeding off his emotions.
I am a teenager myself and trust me...i didn't like it! It's the same crap they're trying to sell in more and more movies, like any problems can be fixed and everything gets better and *beep* like that. Just like you said...nothing great or inspiring at all, just a random episode of a sad teenager boy's life. The movie is bad!
shareIndeed.
The movie wound up being pretty generic. It's not bad, but by no means is it especially good. Teenage boy with everyday problems; two people stuck in some kind of institution who get "bold" and sneak out (twice?); kid works up courage to ask girl out, tells her she's "beautiful" blah blah (it improved pretty much nothing that they decided to narrate over this event, instead of seeing it happen); kid exaggerates "dysfunctional" family problems; kid realizes and abandons the high expectations his parents have for him, etc. etc. Anybody can be depressed, so I won't remove any merits for that. But it was really unremarkable.
Its funny you wrote that because I am watching this movie and am at 33 minutes and I am considering just deleting this film from my sky plus box. It has been a load of rubbish so far and I don't think I am going to enjoy this film.
God knows how this film is rated higher than the movie '21'. This has been a real chore to watch. I will give it another 10 mins, if it doesn't improve its deleted.
So how did it go?
shareJust deleted it, I couldn't take any more. I have rated it a 1/10. If I had two glass eyes they would be both fast asleep now after watching that rubbish. Dreadful film. 7.1 my arse.
shareVery boring for the most part. Completely overrated, and the main characters acting is painful to watch
shareOUCH!!!! To each his own
shareIt's written by someone who had or has extreme anxiety. It's so accurate its frightening, for the most part.
If you have the issues portrayed in this film, or understand them at all, you'd find it fascinating. It's being rated by people who have understanding and empathy for others; if you got it because of the title expecting a comedy, you would naturally be disappointed.
gotta love the incisive commentary here... you sure you don't need more Zoloft?
btw, i think the story IS kinda funny... imagine meeting the girl of your dreams in a... psych ward. imagine if they got married... they'd tell their family and friends, "3 North. where dreams begin." if you don't catch the humour here, i guess you might be more of an American Pie kinda person.
i freaking loved this film. will definitely watch it again and i downloaded the soundtrack straight after seeing it.
shareI watched in 15 times in the span of two weeks. And yes, I bought the songs that I could from iTunes. It is an awesome movie. The book was better and a bit different but the movie still rocks.
The dude's acting was pretty good (Craig); also nice to see that they finally shed some light on mental illnesses and not with a negative stigma.
However, it did make me feel like sh*t, but that's just my issue; can't take that away from the movie. 7/10
i agree, i like moody, psychological stories and this was just tedious. I didnt like the whiny main character and the way he interrupted with narration. Angsty teens might find this relatable, but 45 mins into the movie and i dont knw much about the characters nor do i care. I got the dry humour, doesnt make a movie good.
shareThis is honestly one of those movies that you just have to be able to understand where he's coming from to enjoy. If you understand it, then everything makes a lot more sense.
shareIt wasn't boring. You just need to pay attention to what's happening in the movie instead of hoping for action scenes.
sharei have had 3 attempts to watch this film in the past, all failed made it 10 minutes in cause i was never fully concentrated. Tonight for some reason felt like the night to give it another shot. It's been a long time since i have been so moved by a film or for a film that is quite depressing, to be so uplifting, i felt so much happiness through out because i wasrealising that this film is such a gem. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
shareI have no respect for people that can't even sit past 30 minutes of a movie to decide whether or not they liked it. People like you are the problem with why so few good movies get made. OMG LYKE NOT ENOUGH STUFF HAPPENED I WAS SO BORED. Sod off you dolts.
shareIf i want a thoughtful movie, i'd stop this one and re-watch a Stanley Kubrick film
shareMaybe if you had given it past the half hour you said you could only watch it you would have found it it was actually a very good movie. It had a lot of meaning to it how people expect to much. The movie isnt my all time fav but it was a good little movie and I enjoyed it and wasnt bored at all.
shareI feel like the type of people who like this movie create idealistic ideas of mental health.
shareAbout 40 minutes in and still waiting for it to get good. It tries to be quirky and cool like all the other recent comedies/comedy dramas aimed at teens but just doesn't do it very well. I wasn't surprised to see it being overrated on here.
