He's a private investigator, who watched the story unfold I think he thought the boys were being vilified by police, investigators and the media and thought he could help the defense team. Most investigators want to find the truth, whether good or bad. The police, detectives were only interested in finding someone to blame. They were under a great deal of stress, pressured by the community and the media and I get that, but they also seemed to be searching for something to blame on the defendants, some of that evident was so ridiculous. Wearing a t-shirt for a heavy metal band doesn't make someone a murderer or a devil worshiper, it's just a t-shirt of a band a teenager liked and nothing more, no hidden meanings. If that was the case, a quarter of the teenagers in the area would also be devil worshipers. There evidence should have never been allowed in court it was preposterous. He was also the only one who didn't have an agenda other than finding the truth and the facts about the murders.

But, the whole case was poorly handled, they jumped to conclusion that supported their case and theories against the three teenagers. Police mishandled the crime scene, didn't protect themselves, when they should've worn gloves, booties, and something on their head so not to leave their own trace at the scene. He was the only one looking for the truth instead of looking for someone to blame.
