SNAKES director opens the ASYLUM

Hyde Park Entertainment gave Fango the scoop that principal photography is set to commence September 15 on the supernatural chiller ASYLUM, directed by David R. (SNAKES ON A PLANE) Ellis. Written by television scribe Ethan Lawrence and produced by Hyde Park’s Ashok Amritraj, Patrick Aiello and George Parra (with Tawny Ellis serving as co-producer), ASYLUM revolves around a “group of college students who discover that their dormitory was once a mental asylum,” according to Hyde Park’s PR, which is now “haunted by the spirit of an evil doctor who performed horrific experiments on his patients.”

The cast set for ASYLUM includes Sarah Roemer (pictured, and soon to be seen in THE GRUDGE 2) and Mark (ALIENS) Rolston, with Jake Muxworthy, Cody Kasch, Ellen Hoffman, Caroline Garcia and Travis Van Winkle rounding out the ensemble. Gary Capo of X2 serves as director of photography on the Rock Hill, South Carolina shoot, with SNAKES production designer Jaymes J. Hinkle tasked with bringing the institution to life. Most exciting, David LeRoy Anderson, NUTTY PROFESSOR/MEN IN BLACK Academy Award winner (and husband to ELM STREET actress Heather Langenkamp), has been tapped to handle the FX. Given his extensive résumé (which also includes 2004’s DAWN OF THE DEAD, THE MONSTER SQUAD, SHOCKER and more), horror fans can no doubt look forward to the evil doctor’s “experiments” being truly horrific. Look for more coverage on this one soon. —Sean Decker
