While a Warcraft sequel is not confirmed, Jones recently shared some insight into what the movie's story might cover. In other tweets, he said a Doomplate for the character Ogrim was planned for sequel. He added: "With the orcs now in Azeroth, they learn about armor making in this new world."

Jones went on to say: "[Warcraft 2] would have seen Dalaran LAND in the Alterac mountains & magic proliferate as Kirin Tor try to be more open after death of Llane."

Here are some other quotes from Jones about his story plans for the Warcraft sequel:

"Main orc focus would have been Go'el's imprisonment & violent bid for freedom." [Source]
On the subject of the Alliance's main focus: "Don't want to give too much away, as who knows... but Khadgar unleashing Pandora's Box, Lothar arc, Varian." [Source]
Warcraft struggled, Jones says, because it had too many storylines: "You have to focus. Trying to serve too many threads is exactly the problem that got us in this position." [Source]

I saw the conversation on his Twitter account. He also said that he's going to cut the story arc leading up Gul'dan opening the Tomb of Sargeras. So, I don't know how the movie is going to explain the end of the Second War because that was the main event that led to the Alliance winning.

reply

Maybe the second movie wouldn't end with the Second War? It seems like a logical stopping place, though. I understand his concern about too many storylines, but Gul'dan and the Tomb of Sargeras seem like they would be really hard to cut.

reply

From the other details he gave, it sounds to me like it would be about the Second War but it will focus more on the Alliance side of the story, while Go'el in Durnhold is kind of a side story.

reply

Right, but I mean maybe the second movie would end with the second war still in progress? Because it seems like they'd be cutting out a major setup for future lore if the Horde is defeated without Gul'dan opening the Tomb of Sargeras.

Hmm ... having just checked the details (http://wow.gamepedia.com/Second_War), maybe it would be enough for Gul'dan to be rumored to be looking for "something powerful" and have him retreat at the critical moment. That would keep the story thread available without spending screentime on it.

That's good that at least Duncan can give some hint and hope for having some sequels, the stories are good enough, especially with Go'el... with the sequel they can easily just focus on him mainly. His story represents the struggle of the recently discovered Orcs in Azeroth perfectly, that came in the first movie. I would be maximum excited for this.

Being a critic is not a real profession, and it sure as hell is not rocket science either

Hmm interesting. I hope it gets made. I am a little concerned with the cutting of Gul'dan and Tomb of Sargeras, but then again it could be delayed for another sequel. Maybe keeping Gul'dan as a prominent figure headed bad guy, even during Thrall's rise to power. I would love to see what Duncan Jones can do with his own vision of Warcraft.

reply

I don't think that Gul'dan will remain a prominent headed bad guy during Thrall's rise to power. I think that the opening of the Tomb of Sargeras still happens in the movie universe but it'll just be that it focuses mainly on the Alliance point of view of the war. So, the Horde will manage to push the Alliance back into Lordearon and nearly win but then abandon it at the last minute (which we know will be because of Gul'dan's abandonment in search of the Tomb but it won't be fully explained in the movie). Then the Alliance will push back the Horde back to the Black Morass lead by Turalyon, after Lothar dies of course, and Khadgar will use his powers to destroy the portal.

well they could also do the tomb of sargeras part like how they did it in warcraft 3. when thral and the horde get past there to go to kallimdor they see glimpses of the past with guldan trying to get inside and what happens to him inside.

Some ideas for the sequel. Duncan is heading in the correct direction as far as the plot is concerned.

1. Ditch Guldan and the Tomb of Sargeras. He was cool for one movie, but we don't need him as the big bad anymore. He should die unceremoniously and even off screen to save time, because we already know the extent of his powers and charisma. He already lost the moment he had to use magic against Durotan. Audiences won't miss him.

2. Wrap up Lothar, Khadgar and Orgrim's storylines quickly. Make way for the new characters otherwise you'll end up with another case of audiences not knowing what's going on.

3. Remove references as many as possible to the first movie (or recap it briefly) and make it standalone and accessible to a wide audience. Don't even call it Warcraft 2. Call it Warcraft: subtitle and market it as a new story in the Warcraft saga, as opposed to a sequel to the Warcraft movie.

4. Lord of the Clans shouldn't be a side story. It should be the MAIN story. The second war should be the side story. This way you can cameo all your trolls, ogres, and heroes of both the alliance and the horde quickly, without having to spend much time on them.

Goel's story should at least be 60% of the movie. Instead of making a war movie like the first one, make it a personal movie with "human" (not as in race) and relatable drama. The story of a misunderstood beast, despite how cliche it is always hits notes with people all the time, if done right. If you go with this, you only really need to motion capture Goel and the rest of the cast will only be humans. Duncan Jones will also have more creative control if the movie has way less budget if he goes in that direction. He has already proven that he doesn't need a big budget to make a great movie. If anything, it distracts him from his original goal.

Budget goal? I think 80 million should do, that is about half the budget of the Warcraft movie.

Yeah you're right but tbh, I'm still pretty pissed at Gul'dan. *beep* him for killing Durotan, that's what the audience have been saying too lol. Maybe Duncan Jones will have Thrall killing Gul'dan because he Orgrim tells him what happened to his father?

reply

That has to happen instead of his fate from the game! Lothar killed Blackhand instead of Orgrim so why can't Thrall have his revenge on Gul'Dan!?

reply

Much as I love Thrall and think he's cool, I just don't see mainstream audiences flocking to a movie with an orc as the sole main character. Especially if you're trying to entice people who passed on the first movie.

reply

Unless Thrall is accompanied by Jaina Proudmore or another charismatic character ! I truly want Thrall to be one of the main focuses on the sequels!
