I can sort of see why, but I miss things like mod shops, airplanes, submersibles, garages, tow trucks, stock portfolios, homing missiles and better graphics.

On the question of graphics, for one reason or another The Ballad has a better look than 4 and The Lost, making it seem closer to 5: http://gtaforums.com/topic/456772-is-ballad-of-gay-tony-have-better-graphics-than-gt/

Yes, I am crazy, but I say that IV looks better than V. LC looks and feels more realistic and authentic than V. I hate how cartoon-like V visuals are in comparison.

I'd rather spend time in dark and gritty Liberty City than in flashy and fake San Andreas.

I'm on my 3rd play through of GTA V, I installed IV an tried playing it again but the graphics looked soo sh!tty I couldnt even get into it also the vehicle handling always sucked in that game.

To my understanding, the graphics on 4 for the PC are better than for the seventh generation gaming consoles. Also, I happened to discover that Xbox's HDMI produces a clearer image than old composite video, but yet it only looks decent on smaller high-definition televisions, as larger TVs render noticeable noise, rather than blur, on distant objects within the game.

I have my 360 hooked up to one of my 20" Dell UltraSharp LCDs on GameMode using HDMI-to-DVI cable, GTA V an other games look awesome on it GTA IV not so much I just reinstalled Episodes From Liberty City the car models looks pretty good but the world looks kinda lo-res, for one thing RockStar shouldnt have gave the option to screw with Brightness/Contrast/Saturation an just had it at a deafult setting like in V, I might play around with the game now an see if I can get back into it since its been like 3yrs since I played it.

That's because GTA IV is better than GTA V. But San Andreas, Vice City, GTA 3, Vice City Stories & Liberty City Stories are also better than GTA V. It's a typically overhyped game with terrible gameplay, story, characters, plastic car mechanics etc. And hype does not make it good.

reply

I disagree about GTA 5 being a bad guy I really enjoyed and loved the characters, but GTA 4 feels so much better in terms of characters and stories I really did not want it to end and I love the Liberty City Stories as well. I recently played GTA 3 again its fun but it has not aged that great,I still love Vice City and I need to play San Andreas again its been years since I have played it.

GTA V was made for mainstream audiences, meaning people who only play CoD or Battlefield which are completely oblivious to storytelling. This is also made evident by the car mechanics, which are WAY easier in GTA V in comparison to IV. Again, R* made it more friendly to the mainstream public. They also know this audience doesn't know how storytelling works, so they add in the useless 3 player thing ( useless because you should only have 1 main protagonist, that you can relate to ). And seriously, Trevor is a brainless psychopath with no special character traits whatsoever while Michael and Franklin are poorly written characters who i could have thought of on my own easily. Also the way Trevor and Michael involve Franklin in their business is just stupid. It's like they needed a black guy to keep their image up. And the story itself is only about planning heists and executing them ( again, poor writing ). And these are only the issues about the story that i'm mentioning, figure how the rest works..

I wouldn't say GTA IV is better than GTA V. Moreso, it was better for it's time.

When GTA IV came out, there were very few open world games out that gen. And graphically, it was a big benchmark.

By the time GTA V came out, open worlds have been done to death and the graphics were overshadowed by the PS4/XB1 launch,

I have to strongly disagree, GTA V is a much better game then GTA IV, IV was the most boring barebones GTA bar none, only with TL&D and TBoGT did they recapture the feel of GTA.

All the fun and customization that was missing in GTA IV stood out and after GTA:SA it was very noticable on how much was missing, GTA V brought the good stuff back after the massive amount of complaints and gripes people had with IV.

The driving in GTA IV also was not realistic, I have driven a real car and the GTA IV driving was just bad, GTA V corrected this problem and made driving enjoyable again. GTA IV also had a boring as hell area being only city, it got old fast and I had to go back to SA numerous times for better scenery.

GTA V is not perfect but its a hell of a lot better then GTA IV, when GTA IV was out it felt like it was years close to a decade to wait for a new GTA, when they had that first GTA V trailer I was so happy that they were going to have non city areas.

Driving around in GTA IV was also boring cause it was just city, there were different places but it really sold me on practically hating Liberty "Crap hole" City. GTA V is fun as hell to drive around in, spend a little time in the city then go into the forests, desert, or woods and see some sights or just have fun.

Yes. The wooded areas of Westdyke and Firefly Island should've been a little bit larger.

- You mean GTA IV is the GTA game with the grittiest, darkest atmosphere. Stating a game is boring is just not a valid reason to say it's terrible.

- GTA shouldn't be about customization, it should be about a good story, characters & gameplay for example. All elements that GTA IV had, and GTA V didn't have.

- Driving was softened for mainstream audiences in GTA V compared to GTA IV. Anyone complaining about GTA IV's car mechanics is just terrible. It isn't hard at all if you know how to, and feels a lot better than the plastic car mechanics GTA V had, which is way too easy and proves no challenge

- This is just a biased opinion.

- Liberty City was the perfect city. It was gritty, dark, and at night very atmospheric and it captured the soul of the story very well ( darkest story in GTA Series ). GTA V is too big, too many empty areas. LC just breathes life.

GTA IV > GTA V in all the points that matter; story, gameplay, characters, dialogue, combat system, wanted level, car mechanics, multiplayer. Whereas the only reason that can be given that GTA V would be better is it is bigger ( with loads of empty areas ), has more customization ( really a secondary priority ), graphics ( Makes sense because of the times they were released, even though you could argue GTA V looks a lot more cartoony than IV.) and car mechanics ( which is false, only people who are terrible at IV claim this. )

reply

-GTA IV was dark and gritty but beyond that the area was lifeless to me, it also had a big depressing vibe that it gave off which is a bad thing as some areas should be that way but not most if not all of the city.

-GTA IV's story was not that good in my book and my god did I hate many of the main characters. Niko complained, complained, complained yet stuck with his deadbeat cousin Roman, Roman is a spineless wimp who should have died the moment he was to much of a coward to grow some balls to get his woman back or drop her cheating ass for someone else. Brucie was another annoying pile of crap with his fake masculinity who again should have been killed off in one of the missions. The worst character by far though was "Bernie" who is an offensive stereotype and horrible portrayal of gay people.

-Driving in GTA IV sucked because of how unrealistic it was, the game took GTA in a more realistic direction yet the car handling was really bottom of the barrel to the point driving was just not fun. It was not hard to get a handle on but that doesn't mean it was good much less enjoyable which is really a strong negative when a lot of the game is driving a vehicle.

I rate customization so high because GTA:SA had tons of it, one of the praises for the game is how much you can do to C.J.'s clothes, guns, cars, stats, and actual body. Many expected some if not all of that to come back in GTA IV but instead GTA IV was more of a regression for gameplay and what you could do.

- I guess this is just preference, but in my opinion GTA IV's LC breathes life, all of the peds have hilarious, Original quotes and especially Algonquin at night is a view i have not seen a lot of in videogames. IMO it is far from depressing and lifeless, but it is dark and like i stated before it fits the dramatic aspect in the story well.

- GTA IV's story was very good. Say what you will about Brucie, Roman & Bernie, but you can't deny they had personality. Compare this to Franklin in V for example,or even Michael who was just a one dimensional character. Also Niko is the best protagonist in the GTA series because his personality, at first we think he is this trained cold blooded killer, but throughout the story he shows more and more that he has a sentimental side, especially towards his family and the ones he cares about. The story was built up fantastic with the conclusion being One of those people he cares about dying, and him getting ready for one final act of revenge. Also slowly towards the end of the story you can feel Niko getting sick of his criminal lifestyle, claiming he cannot do it for longer, this makes Niko the best in-depth protagonist of the series.

- Realism shouldn't exist in videogames. Compared to V the driving is a lot more advanced and it requires more skill to drive a car well. Obviously you can have people liking and disliking this, but it is by no means terrible, i liked the car mechanics a lot better than in V.

- That's true, although i really like GTA: SA too but not because of the customization, but the story IMO is right up there with IV and CJ is also obviously a likeable protagonist. However GTA IV is based on like you mentioned mostly only an urban envoirement so having planes or jetpacks or big items like that would make it a mess, because the area isn't suited for this. But i'd choose quality over quantity any day.

When everything is added up, that sentiment is totally understandable.

Same, GTA V was dumbed down. it does have nicer graphics, car modding, weapons etc, but found it boring as bat sh!t when i complered it.
GTA IV does have its flaws, car mechanics and no economy to spend all that money on. But it had a better story, that ending nailed it! If they kept all the cut content such as the countryside, mp3 player, Romans limo, bus service etc, it would have been the icing on the cake.
