Final Fantasy in general

Ok, I need to say something about final fantasy in general and this being the latest entry to date it seems the place to do it. First off I want to say that Final fantasy XIII was not my favorite entry by a long shot, but I don't hate it.

Ok, I have a question: can you name one entry in the series that is universally loved by all fans of the Final fantasy series?

I know your going to say VI or VII but I disagree I have come across quite a few who dislike the characters in final fantasy VII or other things about it. VI as well, but perhaps VII has been the the best selling and commercially successful entry. My point is that no matter which entry you look at, one way or another someone always has a problem with it. It could be the characters, the story or the gameplay there are always groups of players that will dislike it. No matter what developers do, they won't be able to please everyone.

In a way we fans have such expectations and different opinions about what makes a good character or story that no matter how the game turns out no entry will be able to please everyone or even a majority. Sephiroth is no doubt one of the greatest villains in Final Fantasy history, yet I found a whole thread about how boring and 2 dimensional he was, and many agreed, some saying he was one of the most overrated in the series. What ticks the boss to me is interesting characters and a story that has emotional elements that make you feel for the characters and gameplay that is fun and also strategic. For me Final Fantasy VIII and X have ticked those boxes for me and a majority of the others I like just fine. I hear people say free roam, free roam, free roam, but that isn't really the problem, though a nice addition we really haven't had since the psone days, it's not answer.

I'll finish up now because I don't want to ramble. People are very harsh, in my opinion for something to be crap should have done everything wrong or have no redeeming features. Think about it, final fantasy XIII did some things right. By far it's one of the best looking games out on consoles, even for 2009 I'm struggling to see a game in 2011 that has such amazing looking cutscenes and in game graphics. The story is kinda boring and that's the biggest flaw for me. Gamplay is ok.

What do you think?, is it possible to make the perfect Final Fantasy? One that pleases everyone? I don't know if it is, maybe the truth is us fans are our own worst enemy and there's just no pleasing us all.

obviously not as you just discovered for yourself. different people have different opinions.

In my opinion its easily the worst FF in FF history. let me put it to you this way, i could easily write a 10 page essay about why FF IX and XII are terrible and I freaking love those games. i absolutely despise XIII.

this game created 6 of the most annoying, poorly contrived, vapid, one dimensional characters in FF history, gave them speaking roles and made them the leads. The villains might as well be nonexistent as i dont remember them. the music is completely forgettable, they even murdered the chocobo song by giving it idiotic j-pop lyrics.

the game is comprised almost entirely of hallways. the good graphics is a moot point as most games have good graphics during gameplay. And the cutscenes aren't worth mentioning as any game company can make beautiful cutscenes if they so choose to.

I dont remember the story as i kind of fadded out each time the mind numbingly dumb dialog started up.

the game doesnt even feel like Final Fantasy. it feels like a generic JRPG that put chocobos in one section of the game.
