I've finally beaten Final Fantasy XIII after the year since...*Spoiler*

It's actually a good game. Here's my short review:

Good:
*The graphic is stunning, especially CGI scenes.
*Paradigm and side quests are fun (See below for the bad)
*The story gets better later the game (first few chapters are all about actions and survival)
*Upgrading weapons is fun, especially upgrading via cystarium (see below for the bad)
*Several places such as Archyte Steppe are amazing to explore, especially the beauty of the creation.
*You can talk to people by walking to them and listen to their voice. It's better than reading the text from them.

Bad:
*It's too linear such as if you go into the next area, you won't come back, even if you miss treasure chests except a few last chapters where you can go anywhere you want to go. It's the best if you either read the walkthrough from the game site or buy a strategy guide book just in case.
*Switching paradigm for the first time takes little bit too long because it gives me either less than five star rating or game overs.
*You can die in the battle as a leader. You can't switch the character after being KO'd but instead, can give you game overs. Except that there is a option of retrying which is good.
*One thing about Cystarium is that it's also too linear and too easy. All you do is use CP and go where it's leading. You can't choose which way to go except picking roles. It's not like FFX and FXII.
*No town. What's up with that?

*I'll add more if I remember something else.
**After the final battle, I just had a cystarium expansion and an option to save the game which would return you to the place before the final battle. Now, I can get stronger and will find the way to upgrade my weapons to the max.

Overall: I gave it 8.5 out of 10. Simply amazing. I'd add 1.5 more if not for the linear stuff.

Nice review. I still found it a crushing disappointment though, even though I liked it more the second time I played it. I think that was mainly due to knowing which enemies gave you good items and experience in order to save up/buy upgrades. However, the whole upgrading weapons thing did seem a bit overly complex.

Yeah the graphics are stunning no arguments there.
However, the side quests are in one chapter (11 I think). Its like you get to Grand Pulse, and the game says ok, heres all the missions you can do. Going around doing a few is fine, but there are like 60 and it gets tedious quickly. Archtye Steppe was fun too explore at first, but it became overkill quickly.

I think I actually preferred reading text when speaking to NPCs. It kind of gave the previous games more 'life'. At the end of FFXIII, I felt that it didn't really know much about Cocoon. Which leads into your next point, it was just too linear. The only Final Fantasy game that didn't feel epic.

Also, the first time using the battle system was cool, but by the end it just doesn't feel rewarding as previous systems. I quite liked the system they used in Final Fantasy XII, and I felt it really had a lot of potential if they upgraded it to the PS3, but its a shame they didn't go that route.

I did like certain parts of the story. The ice place near the game when the story really gets going. Chapter 10 that exists solely to train you, and a lot of Chapter 7, especially the Hope/Snow stuff. However, I didn't really care for any of the characters and Lightning was somewhat of a bore.

There is nothing complex about upgrading weapons. It is the simplest part of the game.

how do i get back to the final boss i need the location for the teleportation been a long time

If I remember correctly, the warp gate is at Vallis Media, Base Camp, which you can reach from Archlyite Steppe - Southern Funnelway.

Hope it helps.

Yeah, when I replay the game, it became even more enjoyable, especially with upgrading weapons and getting items. There are times when getting the items for weapons are damn hard and long to get. Like, I tried to get the item called Trapezohedron so I can upgrade my weapon to final stage and fill it to the max, which also takes time. I kept fighting that giant Adamantoise and Adamantortoise in Archtye Steppe so they can drop Platimum Ingot (which can be sold for 150,000 gils) and Trapezohedron.

I agree. It's frustrating. Some enemies are hard to beat (some sure took a while, even with powerful weapons). I remember seeing Archtype Steppe for the first time and I was literally blown away by its size and how expansive it is and I was excited to explore, but I got impatient when I keep running places to places (I'm thankful for chocobos, but there too few, imo)

It became a bit difficult to achieve five stars rating in every battle I've been in as I keep playing farther into the game (I read the last mission monster drop the Gold Watch, which extend the time to achieve the five star rating which would hopefully drop good items). Dropping good and rare items also became harder too. I'd love to see FFXII in PS3 version! It'd be stunning to see. All they do is polish up the graphic a bit, make water more reflective, and make things more livable. It may take a while to do that, though. We may not see it until at least late 2014 or early 2015.

I beat the game for the second time the other day(along with 13-2) and I became convinced that this is my favorite Final Fantasy series. I started to doubt I loved it after playing several times the old games in the series(1-5), but this game is special. I love all of the characters, even though some annoyed the living hell out of me for the first 25% of the game, and their interactions. FF13 also has my favorite battle system in the series, which got perfected in 13-2. By the end of both games, I found myself crying because I wanted to continue in the lives of these characters. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is too far away.

Yeah, when I replayed the game, it became even more enjoyable and I can do something better than everything I've done in my first playthrough.

I hated Hope, but he does have some powerful magic that can be very helpful in the battle against some powerful foes (See my post above for some answers). Hope's hit point is pretty low and he dies in some battle (annoyingly) and messed up my battle strategies, but I can't switch him around with other party members because his magics are very helpful and I maxed his weapon (close to ultimate weapon) and it has high magic damage. So tempting!

I also can't wait for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and I really hope everyone will have happy endings. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is quite dark and is a good set up for the final chapter. I'm looking forward to Lightning Returns, Final Fantasy XV, and Kingdom Hearts III. (FFXV probably won't come out until late 2014 and Kingdom Hearts 3 until 2015 or 2016. Grrr!)

Also, I agree, FFXIII has very cool battle system and I enjoy the battle system, but the battle system I enjoyed the most was Final Fantasy XII because it's a open battle and the way to use options are pretty easy and I love it when I move around freely and fight some monsters. I know it's not traditional type, but I liked the new style they went with in XII.

I know you'd be surprised when I say this, but I never played Final Fantasy I to VI, Tactics, and two more parts. I want to play them, though!

You very well should. It's fun to see how the series grew up and how different each game is, but I do recommend playing the most recent versions of the games, since the original versions are very, very dated and you will most likely not enjoy them. I also completely understand why you love the battle system XII. That game is also one of my favorite in the series. I loved how you could customize pretty much every single detail in the battle so your characters would react the way you want them to. This saves a lot of frustration when you don't have control over all the characters all the time. But I just love the battle system in 13 more because it's probably the most "active" in the series. It keeps you on your toes the entire time, even with regular enemies, which can be tougher than the main bosses themselves.
