Regarding characters like Hope

Why is it that whenever characters are emo for legitimate reasons (i.e. Hope losing his mother), they are looked at as whiney pussies like as if though the loss of a loved one should happen to you every day, and yet emos like Edward Cullen get off free?

Dude, there are lots of people (equal to the amount of Twihards) who think Edward Cullen is a "whiney pu$$y."

I don't know about you, but if I were him and i lost my mother, I'd be severely depressed and whiny. So, i could of understood him.

I still don't understand why the funk he blames Snow for his mother. It's obvious to anyone that he was trying to help her. It seems like unnecessary or lame attempt at causing drama. The dialog and character dynamics are truly horrible.

Hope is endlessly annoying as he can never spit out what he is trying to say and ends up just making sighing, whiny noises instead of words. And he's always running to catch up to people only to get there and be totally exhausted from the short jog that he can't speak and has to double over gasping for air. All his gestures are overly dramatic and drawn out. As are most of the character's in this game.

Hope is the JarJar of the FF universe. He just gets more annoying and won't stfu about wanting revenge on Snow...which would be fine if we, the audience, didn't know for a fact that Hope knows Snow did not kill his mom!! It's like imagining Tifa wanting to kill Cloud because he was there when Sephiroth kills Aerith and then never shutting up about it and being extra emo. In all the FFs I've never been so annoyed with a character as Hope. I mean, they really could have fixed all this by making it appear as though Hope thought that Snow left her to die or something, but nope, he knows for a fact that Snow tried to save her and yet he wants to be an idiot about it. Even Lightning tries to explain it to him, but nope he is dead set on killing Snow.

He actually does shut up. He spends more than half of the game not whining. Perhaps you forgot about that.

I totally get that! He's a 14 year old that watched his mother die, I think his behaviour is totally understandable.

Um ... isnt that obvious ?

Twilight stuff is viewed by a certain kind of audience that EXPECTS and ENJOYS emo stuff. Think preteen and early teen girls.

I dont ever complain about Edward Cullen because the only way you could get me to watch Twilight in the first place would be at gunpoint.

And yes, Hope is a child, being emo after losing his mother is completely justified. But it still gets on peoples nerves.

Its the same in the real world. People who have depressions will have them for a LONG time. The usual tactics of people, cheer them up and all is well, wont work there. Thats why people lose their patience. Pretty quickly, actually.

Its the same for example with Imoen in Baldurs Gate 2. She was captured by a madman and tortured for months and some part of her soul was stolen, too. If that isnt enough reason to get whiney then what the frak isnt. But guess what, people made looooooooooong threads to complain about it.
