What should I play?

I've never played or even watched any of these final fantasy games. I've just finished the last of us and am looking for something new to get into.
Which one? I saw an amazon there is FF13 but also FF13-2. Any other? Considering whilst it might be good to play them all, unlikely I'm gunna be able to commit to something like that. I wanted a good balance of game play, story and latest graphics. Thanks

If you're just looking for a Final Fantasy game and you're not familiar with RPGs, you should start out with either FF9 or 10 since I consider those the easiest in the series. Otherwise, FF13 is my absolute favorite in the series. The battle system is more complex and a little tougher than previous entries so be wary of that.

Also don't listen to people that say you only need to touch "Auto-Battle" to beat the whole game. If they seriously did that, they wouldn't have gotten past the first couple of hours of the game.

I've seen some the battles of this game in YouTube videos(*) and maybe its because I played a lot of RPGs and MMOs before, but I would describe them as "very simple". You basically change your group formation a lot and have a bit of choices what combat actions your own character should choose - thats already all. And you have less status conditions than even for example Guild Wars or Diablo 2.

The battles themselves might sometimes not be easy, but after a while, with a bit of farming in the right places, you apparently can get good gear to help with that.

(*) I dont own any consoles, and these videos dont motivate me to buy one; the strong point of this game seems to be the story, while the combat system actually looks pretty dull.

If you've only seen the battles in YouTube, perhaps you shouldn't be talking. I'm an avid RPG gamer myself and thus game has one of the most complex battle system I've played. I've also seen many people curse this game because they couldn't progress due to the difficulty.

Yeah, right.

Thank you for agreeing with me. I'm glad you realize that watching a game play on a video is not the same as actually playing it.

Whatever.

Timing is an important factor.

Which, by the way, proves my point. If reactions and timing matter (a lot), then thats an action game or shooter. Not a roleplaying game.

So yeah, Final Fantasy is an action RPG.

I've checked out earlier FFs (7 and 9) on YouTube, as well, and it seems FF never really had very complex rulesystems, anyway.

So is Kingdom Hearts and the Tales of series and timing matter a LOT in those games. Are those not action RPGs? How many RPGs? Also timing became a huge factor in the Final Fantasy series since Final Fantasy IV. Or are you one of those "true Final Fantasy fans" that have only played 7-10 that don't understand what a turn-based system is? I'll give you a hint: only 10 follows that system.
