The Emphasis in the promotion for this game on these L'cie being all persecuted just made me think of X-Men.

"When the chips are down... these Civilized people... will Eat each Other"

If you press triangle (or y is that's how you choose to live your life) you will find all this explained in the 'datalog' section of the menu.
As I understand it, Fal'Cie are godlike beings who created and sustain the world, which is called Cocoon. There are other, not so nice Fal'Cie from another world called Pulse, who are considered a threat to Cocoon. L'Cie are humans who have been marked by the L'Cie with a special task, or Focus, which they must complete within a certain time or they will become monsters called Cie'th. The Purge is an attempt by the Sanctum (the ruling body on Cocoon) to forcibly relocated all the L'Cie to Pulse.

This helps a little, but I am still confused.

Most of the people on the Purge train in the beginning weren't L'cie. Also was it the Cocoon Fal'cie that they destroyed in the beginning that turned all the water to crystal? If so then everyone in the group are L'cie from the good Fal'cie. And do the Sanctum have their own Fal'cie? This game seems a lot more confusing that it needs to be. It's hard to get into the story when it isn't clear who's side you are on or even what the sides are.

You're not alone. I've been confused during the whole entire game. But there is an option in the menu where they give you the data to read about it. That may help.

reply

Ok, yeah. I found the option with the datalog that explains everything in a very cold and boring way. Would have been so much cooler for this to be explained in the beginning with some sort of sense what and where everything is. I'm halfway through the game and I'm just starting to realize that pulse is another planet? Maybe? They always call it the lowerworld which makes me think it's underground.

Also a map of Cocoon would have been nice. So I could imagine where all these places I am going are in relation to one another. IT seems so random at this point.

reply

Yeah, I can't really follow it, either.
