This man has no idea of how to make a film...

I´m watching Bryan Loves You in this moment... I´m actually in 1:03_18 and can't stand another minute without complaining here... This movie is so bad! Landau has no idea on how to make a movie. Is just stupid... Someone should explain him how the Camera point of view movies work. The estructure of the film is a mess, Landau should think a little more about where he puts his "hidden cameras" to make the result more credible. The film is full of "too convenient" hidden cameras that shows you everything! there's even a surveillance camera in a three that shows you how Jonathan gets to the mental institution... I never heard about a surveillance camera in a three before... And how did they get the footage from the cameras inside the Bryan's followers headquarters. Wait a minute... wait a minute... Isn't one of the Bryan's followers rules that they cannot be filmed? they say that in one point earlier in the movie so... WHY DO THEY HAVE SURVAILLANCE CAMERAS IN THEIR HQ!?
This movie has no sense, not at all. Is all terrible, the acting, the estructure of the film, the direction is just stupid.
A 1/10 from me. dumb... dumb movie.

a 1/10? are you kidding? Way way too generous. this film deserves a negative. worst film ever, worst acting ever worst ending.

Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity

You know, I have never give a negative puntuation to any film but I think you are right... this movie deserves the - mark...

I can do nothing but agree with you buddy. I was thinking that same thing about the placement of cameras. How did we not see them since they filmed all at the same time? I don't know if you listened to the commentary or not (I did mistakenly thinking I might get some insight into the ideas behind the film. If only I knew how pointless most of the next hour and a half were going to be...) but they said they filmed using multiple cameras, sometimes as many as 5, all at once. So some of these cameras most certainly should've been seen at some point. Though I guess that's the point of multiple takes sometimes.

Thank you for bringing up that thing about the Bryans not supposed to be filmed. I had completely forgotten about that! "Sacrelidge" was the word used. Of course that could all be rumor that people made up, making up stories where one doesn't exist. But still yes, why would they film themselves if it were true and, as I've seen braught up before, how did the authorities get their hands on the footage in the first place? I guess the Bryan's must have been apprehended at some point?

Again, I don't know if you listened to the commentary. But Seth Landau talks about how a lot of this movie comes from personal experience. He was a troubled kid after his parent's divorce and he was forced to relocate to, guess where, Arizona! He said the scene where he is tricked into being commited was 100% based on his own experiences. His mother told him she was going to take him to a facility to show him what it would be like to live there, kind of scare him stright. He found out that was a total lie when he ended up being commited to the place. So I think this is a sad case of the writer/director/star trying to exorcise his own demons and it got in the way of making what could have been a decent film. Unexcusable camera work aside of course. ;)
