It really is a crime that this would be cancelled. Goldblum is perfect for the role. The dialogue, the plot, the actors- everything is spot on and strays so far from the cliche as I can imagine.

I think the advertising of the show was it's downfall- the only real downfall. I didnt even see but a handful of commercials for it, and they werent very informative at all. Certainly not enough to tell the average viewer, who's brain has been so swamped by the deluge of reality television shows and of course the eleven billion 'who dunnit's'- the myriad shows in which some detective/forensic analyst trapses about, bumbling across oh-so-many overly convenient clues which, of course, lead them in the end to the perpetrator- who is, invariably, the person you are meant to LEAST suspect- whom after you've caught on to the routine becomes the FIRST person you suspect as you view them as the least suspect amongst the lineup- thus negating the point... sorry for the ongoing rant... not enough to tell the average view *see above rant* WHY they should have given this show a chance. And I mean other than the obvious selling point- that being, it's JEFF GOLDBLUM.

Speaking of Goldblum, I can scarcely fathom a more appropriate choice in casting than this brilliant actor. Every one of his quirks, the mannerisms which make up the goldblum we see off screen which he's still managed to work his way into the character in minute but very effective ways, his halting pattern of speech, and even his appearance lend very well to the strengths of the character Raines. The supporting cast is noteworthy as well- not too many people can take one's attention off of Goldblum for very long using only dialogue- they play off of Goldblum very well and vice versa.

That said, the show is brilliant. It's full of wit, dry as it may be (and steeped in an influence I could only suspect to be Goldblumian), and surprisingly emotionally impactful. Does it's job in keeping you guessing- and does it without resorting to the oft used 'his blood was found on the business card found in your jacket which you threw in the alley after the murder'- that being, the incredibly tired forensic approach.

Needs to be picked up again. Though, I wonder if as big a name as Goldblum would have the patience to deal with another network picking up a show which may or may not just get dropped again. I, the viewer, would love it if they did, however, albeit with the same cast and writers and of course, Goldblum.

I absolutely agree with your statements. It was quite upsetting that this wonderful show was cancelled. There's seems to be very little in the way of truly raw, emotion driven television anymore and this fit the bill. How much longer must we surf through all the pseudo-reality, who-dun-its before someone realizes THIS is what we want to see. I have very few minutes in a given week in which I can dedicate to televsion and I immediately set a TiVo season pass for this. I hated to see it come to an end so quickly.

It's the Graham Yost curse.

What! No more Raines!!!!!!! Unbelievable!!! Here I was waiting for this wonderful show, escpecially since now there aren't many shows that are worth watching.

There is no hope!

There you have it. TV is for DUMB people. Make a intelligent show, it will get canceled. Put up a bunch of brawling and screaming low-lifes and call it a reality show and millions will watch and it will go on endlessly.

What a pity. This was a show to watch. There is nothing left on TV, except perhaps Monk. Medium is getting boring, Frasier got canceled, Back to You got canceled, CSI ruined it by killing Warrick, what else is there? Ah, screw this. I go and buy some DVDs with good old shows and watch that instead.

It's firefly all over again. Being a well-written original TV show is the kiss of death in a world polluted by reality TV. But... Firefly still got a movie, so maybe...

Maybe it was just me but I wasn't even aware this show existed. I just happened to be browsing Jeff Goldblum's page on IMDB and saw it. I admit it sounds interesting but I didn't have a clue it was ever on television.

As a matter of fact the reason I'd clicked on his page was that I was wondering what he'd been up to. I'd seen him in a cameo or two and voiced in King of the HIll but I hadn't heard much from him since ID4 & Holy Man.

You can go to yahoo, to their tv show section. All 7 episodes are online, and well worth watching.

And yea, its a bummer that it was cancelled.

This show had me hooked straight away. I think the only thing i've actually seen Jeff Goldblum in is Independence day and an episode of friends. He was amazing in the lead role and I thought the show was very good with how the people he was seeing were his hallucinations and not ghosts like in Medium for example. Also, with the ending of the pilot with the song "someone to watch over me", I knew I would have to watch the other episodes too. Here in england, Raines only was on ITV4 then went to being on very late on ITV1.

I'm seeing it for the first time tonight, late night ITV1, and it's pretty good. I don't agree with the complaints about the dialogue. Goldblum is fast and witty, he might have angst but he's not miserable and surrounded by stereotypes like House, for instance. Shame when shows are cancelled in the US before they find an international audience. Much better than Medium, though I do like that too...

This was axed, but that pile of trash 'Monk' continues???? There is no justice.

I think the adversiting was pure crap - I never heard a single little thing about this show. If I had, I would have watched it because when I recently heard Jeff Goldblum was going to be on Law & Order I got all excited because it would be cool to see him as a cop. That's when I was goofing around his profile page and found this show and found myself shocked because I'd never heard of it and after watching the episodes, was even more shocked because it's fantastic.

I agree about good shows dying in a world of crappy reality TV. I mean, gosh, episode 6 made me laugh and almost made me cry and I'm not normally affected by a TV show. I wish there was a way we could get enough people aware and watching the old episodes to get it started back up again... Kind of how cult classics like Hellboy end up getting a second shot at the big screen...

You know, earlier today I just happened to watch an episode of this show, and I swear that after two minutes I went like "I am so sure this got cancelled in the States". The show was solid, not mind-blowing, but there was nothing wrong with it, and the main reason I was watching it was of course Jeff Goldblum. When I found out that it had been on NBC, I was like "Ok, this DEFINITELY got cancelled". When the episode ended, I came here to see if that was the case, and ta-dah!

I hate NBC. Just for the record.

Me too. I thought it was very funny. The scene with Jeff and his little ear dance stuck with me, lol.

I'm glad it was canceled. I called it a few episodes after it came out. I just now was thinking "Whatever happened to that awful Jeff Goldblum TV show" and I'm THRILLED to see it was canceled. Good riddance!
