Does this series have a real ending?

No spoilers please, but I'm wondering, does this series get wrapped up at the end of the 13th episode? I mean, I heard it was canceled early and, having not seen any eps, I'd hate to watch the series, get into it, and only to find the last ep ends without the story being resolved (a la American Gothic and other tragically canceled series).

Just wondering.

Yes. The story is completed by episode 13.

There is not 100% closure but I don't think that was for lack of time or talent. Certain things are better left unresolved, or cannot be resolved. You can't kill evil with a bullet. Pretty much everything that needed to be finished was.

the ending was good

They had the 13 episodes set for a continuation for Season 2. They had a complete plan expected for season 2.

The next season was going to be another day to be repeated.

I just finished watching dvd. (I never watched it when it was originally broadcast). I liked the way it ended, but I couldn't really see how they could sustain the premise into a season 2. Why would Hopper start repeating another day? I think the man had enough secrets for several lifetimes. Maybe with a whole new crew of people. But then we'll never know.

I thought the good premise for Season 2 would be - Hopper fighting to bring down all those power men that were left uncovered.

Season two could have been the same day, but what that other guy was doing, and seeing the day from his perspective.

reply

What other guy - JAred? I doubt that he could carry an entire season... :)

reply

Just finished myself. They said on the commentary that he could relive another day 6 months into the future when something else bad happens. I guess relive it till the crime is solved. That would be the premise each season. They also said that why the day repeats would never be answered b/c it can't really happen. (not a good reason for me)
Perhaps they would have thought of something if there were more seasons.

hey solitair40 -

you said "They also said that why the day repeats would never be answered b/c it can't really happen. (not a good reason for me) Perhaps they would have thought of something if there were more seasons. "

I like to use the reasoning the filmmakers used for the movie "Triangle". When asked how does she keep reliving the moments on the boat over and over, they replied:

"Well that's the premise of the story. She just does".

It's a fresh take on narrative, Why does Detective Hopper keep reliving days? He just does. The point is to not find out why, but what he can do to 1) stop the being framed of murder 2) stop it from happening.

These 2 points go hand in hand. Can't solve one without the other.

It's like trying to debate about the existence of elves, hobbits, trolls, wizards, orcs and walking trees in Lord of the Rings. Just accept the fact they are there and get on with what story is being told.

Except that we don't find out about #2, either. The day just stops repeating. And it happens before he gets closure on some issues, so you can't say that that was the catch. Very well done series, but the ending is - for me - somewhat unsatisfying.

With Jared in the next season, we could have figured out why the time loops were happening. At the surface, Jared looks crazy, but then a lot of the characters in this show were not what they seemed. His doctor could have been lying or doping Jared up to be confused by his days. Or Jared could have created the loop then got caught, only to be more himself at the end.

I think the writers could have taken season two into a different time loop and also have us know why they happened in the first place. Too bad it only lasted one season. It fills my imagination with a lot of colorful ideas.

reply

I think if they want to continue any further with this show that they shouldn't explain the time loops. Think about it, once we figure something out it loses it's significance, you know how it works so there's no reason to really be into it. I'm not saying a lack of explaination is good, at least for a couple more seasons (if that ever happens) and then give it away at the series finale...

I think that's probably what they planned in the beginning, but didn't plan on being canceled...

I know what you're saying and I agree. But if for just one season, we discover how it works; say, someone manipulates the time jump, trapping Hooper somewhere - that would be interesting, I think.
