It seems every hindi movie is a copy of an Hollywood movie.. well.. let's say in easier words, inspired from a hollywood movie... this one is more more in the list... It is a ditto copy of the film, The apartment (1960).... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053604/ not the best of copies... didn't enjoy it at all... and... the story with konkona sen... it's copy from some other movie.. I don't remember the name of the movie right now.. hope those who know post it here in...
This was one pathetic movie. Anurag Basu had good actors like Irrfan Khan and Shiney Ahuja to play with but he misdirected the movie so badly that it was almost unbearable. Irrfan Khan's role was about 10 minutes long and Shiney's was around 7 minutes. Most of the time you were made bear the atrocious acting of Kangana Ranaut who can't act for toffee and joshi guy who walks as if he is salman khan's bodyguard, Kay kay menon was good and shilpa shetty was also surprisingly good..but that was about it.
On the whole a very bad way of spending your time and money...avoid it at all costs...go watch bheja fry again if u r so desperate to see a movie!!
there are four stories in this movie and only ONE was a copy. I agree about shiney and irfan's miniscule roles. they deserved more as their characters did (being two of the most interesting chars).
I never said Bheja Fry was an original! Infact not many movies are original stories. Most of them are based on old movies or books or stories and ideas...what makes a movie a treat to watch is the way it is told...and m sorry to say this guy failed miserably!
bheja fry was one crap movie, one hour and some minutes long and still felt as if it were ages long. the antics of the chars become too predictable and mundane after a while. and people said that it was a situational comedy, felt more of a depiction of a situation without any comedy. please if you really want to avoid metro(which i feel is a very good movie), save your money for some of the flicks that are coming soon
I can't agree more with puneet. Bheja Fry really was a mental torture. It seemed like ages. Seemed like director had nothing to say but he wont shut up untill hez told to do so. I am going to try my luck on "Life in a...." Puneet dont let me down.
Both Bheja Fry and Life in a... were good movies, a break from the regular fare of Bollywood (Chopras and Johars, yuk...). The acting was good in both and both seemed very realistic and still were enjoyable. If you could not bear Bheja, then probably you never had such a friend as the central character, in your school days. Even though it was a copy of a French movie, I still feel that at least the director tried to give a new theme to us. I just hope his next venture will be original and even better.
About Metro, then you cannot complain of short screen time of certain characters. There were a number of them and everyone cannot be given equal amount of time. Whatever their role, they justified it and and shone in it. So be grateful that atleast they appeared. Otherwise we always have to 'jhelofy' that crap SRK.
Metro is nothing like The Apartment, one is a comedy, the other is a poignant, bittersweet tale. If anything, I'd compare it to American Beauty. Excellent work IMO.
Actually the part of kk with kangana and sharman joshi is totally lifted from Apartment...scene by scene..frame by frame. And the other characters...dharmendra and nafisa ..is a lift from french film...innocence...and all other characters..they remind us of many films...right from love actually..!!
couldnt agree more. i was surprised that none of the reviews in newpapers or websites mentioned this. I watched it today and hated it. probably just bcoz one part/story was an exact copy paste. lost interest in the movie as soon as i saw sharman on the phone doing what jack lemmon did in "the apartment". SAD!
hey do you know the movie Raaste ka Pathar done by amitabh. The whole movie focuses on the apartment issue and lot of scenes are copied into the life in..a metro.
As soon as I recognized a major subplot & catalyst for other subplots was from The Apartment Life in a...Metro came across as much more stale.
If I wanted Hollywood plots I'd watch old Hollywood movies, where the plots were fresh & original the first time.
The Shilpa Shetty plot could almost be from Brief Encounter (1945), where a married woman repeatedly meets a man at a train station in London.
I don't understand why Bollywood can't adapt Hindi language novels or create storylines on their colonization & partition or earlier historical experiences. Those stories are unique to India as a country. Or even immigration experiences as an NRI.
" don't understand why Bollywood can't adapt Hindi language novels or create storylines on their colonization & partition or earlier historical experiences"
"don't understand why Bollywood can't adapt MORE Hindi language novels or create MORE storylines on their colonization & partition or earlier historical experiences"
nowadays you'll rarely come across bollywood (even hollywood for that matter) movies whose plot is fresh and original. You would have to go back to the movies of Satyajit ray, mrinal sen, ritwik ghatak, shyam benegal, aparna sen, govind nihalani etc. to find something of substance.
I have seen it and liked it very much! really enjoyed it! but I have never seen the original .. maybe thats why! and that what really matters! I enjoyed it!
