This Movie Drank, Fought, and Did its Ancestors Proud

Someone needs to use that great line in a title thread here... come on!

So many memorable lines and scenes in this film. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Favorite lines: The whole SHIELD agent on the roof scene ("Is there a Renaissance fair in town?" "We've got Xena, Jackie Chan and Robin Hood...")

Favorite Scene: Thor killing that giant monster and then landing cool as can be

Anyone care to list theirs???

reply

Thor did indeed do its ancestors proud. As good as the other three Marvel films already in the can!

Fav Scene is the shot of restored Thor grabbing his hammer as Jane looks on in amazement.

Thor has real emotional depth way beyond what you would expect. It also has action and special effects second to none. After a while and because of the turn in story, you don’t really think about those amazing effects, and that’s a good thing. Instead, you’re pulled into a story about people and that’s a great thing.

Favorite lines... The bar chat with the doctor. Some deep stuff there and inspiring for people down on their own luck

Favorite Scene... Thor stops the Destroyer

This movie... I like it! More! *smashes the film reel to the floor*

Seriously, I like this a bit more than Iron Man 1. It's a got a perfect balance between everything in some way. Plus, the romance part was kept at a bare minimum. Phew... This movie had a lot of things going on and once you digest one scene, the next one comes in.

"I NEED A HORSE!"

reply

"All we have is cats, dogs, birds and lizards."

"Then give me one of those that's big enough to ride"

Attempted murder? It's not like he killed someone.

reply

That and the Xena line got the biggest laugh at the showing that I've seen. Fun and Funny!

reply

Fare thee well.

"A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man."

reply

"This mortal form grows weak. I require sustenance!"

That's a great way to put it and probably why it holds up so well on multiple viewings. I've seen it a few times and have gotten caught up in the story and visuals each time.

reply

I agree it wasa good movie, but your last remark is meaningless: "and once you digest one scene, the next one comes in."

That describes every movie ever made, including the bad ones.

reply

I loved this movie and so do my ancestors! They did us all proud!!!!

reply

No doubt. Marvel does it again. Turns a B- character and turns it into a AAA title. And the romance wasn't as heavy. Especially the end scene with Thor and Jane, he wasn't going for the big romantic kiss and she just swallows his face, good show.

And anytime Thor is beating something/someone with that badass hammer and it echoes that awesome sound was perfect.

reply

I don't know if Thor is B- but he wasn't an A character to the public anyway. Certainly higher on the list than Blade and Ghost Rider but less than Spidey or the X-Men.

He's A list now!

Thor is not a B- character...every character in the avengers is one of their biggest characters...
A+ character:Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Spider-Man, Wolverine
A character: Hawkeye, Nick Fury
A- character: Black Widow.

Arnold is free to play Surtur in the sequel!

After a 25-year marriage as one of the nation's leading power couples in Hollywood and politics, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have split up, they say in a joint statement. “This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us," they say.

Arnold is the devil?

Best scene and score to match: Thor regains his powers and kills the Destroyer.

My favorite line: "That's more like it!" The way Hemsworth delivered it is unforgettable to me.

I also love the part where he's approaching the throne and he's throwing Mjolnir up and down and catching it.

reply

I like the part with Hawkeye and his line "I'm starting to root for this guy."

Favorite line is actually an exchange-

Frost Giant: Run home, little princess...
Loki: Damn

and the scene that follows is my favorite fight scene, followed by Thor and SHIELD and next to that is him and Loki.

reply

okay, one that trumps the others. Any scene with Heimdall the gatekeeper guy, when he lets the Warriors Three go to Earth, and defrosting himself and take out Frost Giants. He is just awesome.

reply

This mortal form requires sustenance.

I do have the urge to go out and eat a box of pop tarts and wash it down with Dr. Pepper!

This movie was epic, best I have seen in a while. It's almost impossible to imagine they took a concept as ridiculous as Thor, kept all of the crazy details of the comic, and pulled it off so well. The story was surprisingly very good and deeper than you would expect.

I forgot about the "run home little princess line! CLASSIC!

It’s been said that good comic books can often times outshine the best book, song, film, or television program. The in-depth story details, accompanied by amazing illustrations give comics their own identity. Well, then there’s the rare case where film captures that and brings it to life. Such is the case with Thor.

The joy of the medium is also piecing together those long asked questions and waiting for the answers. True mystery built up over years.

reply

Leaving the film the way they did and ending it the way they did served the same purpose. The perfect way to end it and make everyone clamor for more.

reply

That certainly was the case with the crowd I saw it with. Most stayed until after the credits and there was a buzz during the wait.

There was also applause as the credits started to roll.

reply

I started the loud applause after one of my screenings!

reply

I wish First Class would've given us an after credits scene.

Moses Fleetwood Walker was an African-American and played major league baseball long before Jackie Robinson. Walker was a catcher for the Toledo Blue Stockings, which was a major league team, and he did it in 1884, over 30 years before Robinson was even born. That's just freaking 19 years after slavery was legal!

VHS Video Cassette worthy!

I think we fans had better cool it with the cosmic stuff. I'm predicting that Green Lantern is going to land with a resounding thud in theatres next month. That is going to scare the hell out of any cosmic plotlines in the future. Avengers may be immune because of the hype but Thor in space or with Thanos involved will not go over well with general audiences. Avatar aside, crazy fantasy films turn people off.

My real favorite line was the gf saying "What the F---" when Joutenheim came up on screen.
Scene was watching Heimdall free himself and take out the ice giants.

My favorite line was "I can not open the gate for you."

reply

Heimdall reaching back and braking the ice to dispatch the two frost giants was a very cool scene.

It's "Ancestors" are now really proud considering the second weekend box office. Already has blown by Incredible Hulk worldwide. Ole jade jaws must be jealous.
