HEY, NON-HORROR FANS:

If your not a true horror fan (its your favorite genre/you watch alot of horror films) why write your opinions? I'm just wondering because I've been noticing alot of reviews by people who write a bad review and then say that horror films are not really theyre bag anyway. They say a movie is bad and thats it they don't even explain themselves. It's kind of pointless, no? No offense but us true horror fans want to know what other true horror fans think about the films. Has anyone else noticed/been bothered by this?

reply

You're right prep. The "non horror" fans are allways the only ones who bag the genre out. In a way, it's kind of good because if they do a bad review then the film must be good!

reply

Not only that but, there's also this big mass of people you know the ones I speak of, the ones that aint got no clue how to even make a movie but spend their lives finding mistakes or faults in others, it's laughable! =P even a crappy b-movie sometimes can be appreciated because of it's technical stuff, but this one right here is a very twisted original story, slow starter but then dang! Total shocker. Thumbs up.

So what Im not allowed to put out my own opinion on here, because Im not a "True Horror fan"? Hitler was an elitist too you know. If you want a review of a horror film by enthusiasts then try something like fangoria magazine. My friend tells me that they are always on the money.

You just make it more difficult for us true fans to decide whether or not to watch a film. I type in the title of a film, look at the percentage it gets and if the numbers are too low I don't rent it. For most movies that has to be a 7 or 8, but for Horror I have learned to lower those numbers to anything above a 4.8. If I don't I may miss out on something good because of people like yourself skewing the percentages.

For some reason people who hate horror on general priniples feel the need to come in here and trash any movie they watch and it just doesn't seem to happen with the other genres. Why is that? I think it is a control issue. I think people who hate horror often are people that always need to feel in control and that is why they hate the whole genre. They see situations where the characters in the movie have absolutely no control and it drives them crazy.

So if you are someone who needs to be in control all the time then maybe you should stick to light hearted comedy. You'll get some stress relief from laughing and we will have an easier time deciding how to get our next rush of adrenaline.

Thanks for listening.

This is why I dislike imdb's rating systems. Good movies get terrible scores, and only if it is a truly amazing film does it get a 7 barely. It just makes me mad because I want to know what horror fans think. Not stuck up snobs who think everything should be all nice and wholesome so their perfect worlds don't get screwed up or something. It's just annoying. And you are absolutely right darleneshadow.

+10 for you!
I do the exact same thing about horror movies and most of the time I end up watching **** horror movies cuz the ones that have a better rating are the dollest.. I dont wanna see sh*t like ju-on or something like that everyone is rating so high and fall asleep halfway through! My thing is very violent horror movies with an interesting story and some pretty disturbing scenes, but those films are rated sh*t! So I dont know what I must and must not see.

I'm glad there's other sites to rely on for that, but im sick of ppl bashing a movie in a genre they don't even like.

I suggest we should make a post titled '' Only true horror fans speaking '' on every horror movie board so we can discuss it between us and know what to go for so we dont have to look on other websites, because I love Imdb!

This is false logic, just so you know.

Personally, I think I have too much bloom. Maybe that's the trouble with me.

Good call preparewar.

It's like they say, some people don't like rollcoasters, and they know they don't like rollcoasters, but they go on one anyway then complain about how much the experience sucked.

I wouldn't let it get you down, there was never any merit, value or even validity in their opinion to begin with, even though they retain the freedom to express it. Just set them straight - If you know you don't like horror movies (from experience), but watch them anyway and then feel the need to complain about the experiences online then quite frankly we don't give a flying f#ck what you think or say, but we won't stop you from saying it. Just prepare to be laughed out of town.

This is generally why I only post about the films I DO love. I actively choose not to troll boards with negativity.

Absolutely! If you don't like horror don't vote on that genre or any other genre that "isn't your bag" for that matter. We only want to know what other fans think so that we can judge whether or not it meets OUR standards. LOVED this movie by the way!

very insightful post, darlene.. while i am primarily a suspense fan, i love a good horror flick, and this one i must say was extremely satisfying.. so i too get peeved with nutniks coming on here to merely bash a film when they clearly have no clue about the genre.. it's frustrating.

anyway, this film hit all the marks.. special f/x were outstanding, the plot tight and believable, the acting absolutely superb and convincing, especially by the father-and-sons team.. poppy, brett, and jimmy were brought to life with eeriely disturbing realism.. and the ending was extremely satisfying.

i would've liked perhaps a bit more suspense, but that's just me.. all in all, this was a cut above within its particular genre.

So, you're saying this movie is not for "true horror fans"? I love well-made movies with compelling stories and characters regardless of the genre. However, I am not into slasher/gore porn. Is that "true horror"?

reply

"Gore porn", "torture porn." Last time i checked that would be a snuff film. Please, explain to me the elements in Storm Warning that would be considered pornography...I would love to hear this.

reply

I'm pretty sure I qualify as a "True Horror Fan" and I hated this film, it was a rip off of so many other films.

Surely other "True Horror Fans" would have noticed this? Or are you still convinced that Friday the 13th was an original idea?

I dont think its non horror fans, its that Peoples tastes in horror movies even for fans differ so much. For instance I love slasher movies but I hate vampire movies so then if i do a review of a vampire movie (Interview with a vampire I gave 4 I think) im not going to have enjoyed it as much so its going to get a low vote from me but a slasher will get a 9. And its all done to personal taste and if that guy wants to give it a 1 its up to him.... think for yourselfs and make up your own minds and stop percentage watching to decide your next watch. How lazy are you people anyway? all it takes is a little research.

It does bother me that horror films in general seem to suffer more reactionary 1/10 reviews than most genres. Good films get bogged down by people who are completely clueless.

It seems that there is a large number of IMDB contributors who hate the genre, and yet continually watch low budget horror flicks anyway. Why bother? I don't like dubstep = I don't buy dubstep albums and then write bitter, negative reviews. I just...avoid it. What's the point of watching and reviewing something you already know you don't care for?
