The Condition of The General

O.K. so WTF. In the last movie the cars was a beater at the beginning and wasn't all decked out until Cooter's buddies fixed it up. In addition yo adding the rebel flag on the roof and the "dixie" horn. The trailer for this shows the car all pefect and suuuu-weet looking.

Is this movie suppose to ignore and be totally independant from the last one ? I mean we got old' Willy back as uncle Jessie, good call. But this Daisey duke is brunette not blonde, another good call. So what gives ?

Maybe all of the jumps and races and crap made the car degrade to what it looks like in the beginning of the first movie. Hmmmmm...year of jumping creeks and ripping through the woods could do that to a car I suppose...

BTW anyone catch the mythbusters episode where they duplicated the Dukes famous jump off a pile of dirt. I have a '78 olds same make and model as they used. FRICKEN TRASHED IT !!!! it was awesome ! Guess I'll steer clear of those dirt piles.

IF YOU HAVE TO ASK ABOUT THE PRICE OF THE UPKEEP,YOU CAN'T AFFORD ONE.

A 78 charger isn't that much to upkeep, you buy a piece of *beep* used one, replace the gearbox, engine, everything, with new parts, and then it's just like a new car.

This movie appears to be a prequel, but what I don't understand is why you've got all of these completely different actors, because these actors aren't unknowns, so it can't be low budgets that's the reason for the change.

Though, the General Lee always had the confederate flag on top, it's just a symbol for southern pride, and it was ridiculous that people in Atlanta would be chastising them, around there they'd be seeing that flag all of the time.

I agree...What is up with the General Lee in this Movie? If it's a prequel then it should NOT look all Tricked out!

The reason why the Actors are different, everyone is apparently teenagers in this new movie!

Not to nit-pick, but A 1978 Olds is NOT a 1978 Charger, Chargers belong to the Dodge company, not the Oldsmobile company. I'm not even sure that there WAS a 1978 Dodge Charger.

And In case anyone is confused...The General Lee is a 1969 Dodge Charger RT.

As for the Atlanta folk chastising the Dukes...

First Off, People need to lighten up over the displaying the Confederate Flag. Many Confederate Soldiers died in the Civil War fighting under that flag. The Georgia State Flag used to have it as part of it's design, reflecting it's heritage, and the General Lee wouldn't be the General Lee with out it. It's how it is USED that makes it good or bad. To hide it away from view is not the answer, you need to educate people on How and When it should be used! Most people DON'T even use it to represent Slavery and Racism anyway! IF I were to display the flag it would because I like the Flag Design, and I love the Dukes Of Hazzard, That's ALL. And there is NOTHING wrong with that!

With all the attention that the Confederate Flag DOES have these days, I thought the production Crew handled that scene perfectly. As I noted above, The General Lee HAS to have that flag on the roof. It would NOT be the General Lee with out it. So to avoid the controversy from the critics, and activists, having the Atlanta folk chastise the Dukes for the flag on their roof was a perfect to deal with it head on. I thought it was perfect and was even funny.
Great Job!

Ummm...yeah. I know the diff between a Mopar and a GM car thanks, haha. I was just pointing out that the car they used in the Mythbusters experiment (probably because of wieght and similar configuration, V8,RWD ETC) was just like one I have in the driveway and that it was kind of fun to see it jumped and wrecked.

We all know that the Dukes used a 1968 or 69' Charger and sometimes other similar "expendable" Mopar cars for the jumps. The had a "General Lee" at the mall where I grew up in Sacramento (Sunrise mall) when I was 13 and I got the guy showing it very pissed when I pointed that his car was neither and actual RT nor a Hemi. He fumed and turned red and showed papers that proved it was used in the actual show. They piled up a ton of those cars in the weekly stunts. He bought a stunt car and fixed it up a bit. It had the roll cage but the interior was gutted and it only had a 318 and single exhaust. Not even any headers as I recall. It was pretty stripped to bring the weight down.

You're right. In the actual movie with Johnny Knoxville, Seann William Scott, etc. the flag wasn't even on the car nor did they have the dixie horn. Hence when Cooter fixes it(after Roscoe ruins it) they play the dixie horn and get excited. And then when they're in Atlanta they realize the Confederate flag is on the roof.

This ABC Family movie is down-right horrible. I just enjoy seeing the General because it's an amazing machine.

And to the whole PC issue, I think if you're driving around in a replica of the General then the flag is fine. But if you're some hillbilly that believes "the South will rise again" then you need help.

My question is who ever said there was only one car? You can crash a car and get another one and give it the same name.

Very good point, maybe they just like that make and model. I know a guy like that with vw's...........
