Virgil + Everett + their tight, tight jeans

Do you think old time cowboys really wore pants that tight? Not that I'm really complaining.

This is BTW one of my favorite Westerns.

reply

Only if it was in their contracts.

No complaints here, either.

reply

LOL that would be something: "Six months on the job duty as decided by the foreman, days off only as necessary, room and board provided, horse and gear expected to be provided by hiree unless jeans worn as tight as possible at all times, in which case employer will also provide."

I didn't notice the tightness of their pants. Honest. Did they actually wear jeans? That would have been inauthentic. Levis were around by then but my understanding is that were more voluminous than they are now and were called "overalls" even without a bib. Cowboys in the 1870s and 1880s generally wore wool pants. Townsmen, including gamblers and lawmen, wore wool suits, and the pants, judging from photos, tended to be loose fitting, even baggy. The pants were certainly loose enough to allow one to get a six-shooter into the pockets, and many gunmen in town carried their handguns in their pants pockets. You probably couldn't do that with tight pants.

An exception would have been at Bragg's ranch. For some reason he insisted his cowboys wear their pants very, very tight. And he would spank them with his cricket paddle if they were naughty. Those Brits!

You didn't notice the tight pants? You must be a hetero male. Yes, I realize the costumes were inauthentic and that jeans, as well as pants, were worn loose at that time...and for many years after. I was being affectionately sarcastic in my original post.

And might I just add, YOU DIDN'T NOTICE THE TIGHT PANTS? It's one of the things that got me through most of Renee Zellweger's scenes.

reply

Yes, I confess to being a straight male. I'm so straight I wouldn't even kick Renee Zellweger out of bed. And no--once again--I didn't notice the tight pants. But now, if I ever re-watch this moie, thanks to you, I'll probably notice nothing else.

Except Lance Henriksen skinny-dipping. That was hot.

reply

Speaking for all the straight women and gay men, mm-mm-mm-mm-mmmm. And yes, when I watched it again this week, it is practically all I noticed too. But its what the moment called for, so thank goodness for Viggo and Ed's tight asses and tighter crotches.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...
