Random photographs (spoilers)

It surely was smart of Jesse to delete the pictures from her camera that were taken at the crime spot (including ones with Carlos and the Church), but why would she delete all. That would be even more suspicious if she constantly runs around with the camera taking random pictures of places and people and then - there are none on the camera. That is weird.

I thought the exact same thing! Thanks for your post.

She wasn't thinking rationally. Still, should could easily say she deleted them by mistake -- thought she hit "no" instead of "yes".

reply

I also think she didn't want them anymore. She didn't want the mementos of the trip. If she printed them, all she would remember is that she killed Carlos.

pictures in digital media aren't really lost even if the person reformats the flash card until they are overwritten. they can be retrieved by any competent lab.

reply

The original question is stupid. Pictures--evidence...no pictures--suspicious, but no evidence. When's the last time lack of evidence was used against someone in trial.

reply

We're talking about Russia here. They're not known for their respect for human rights, are they? If someone important wants you in jail, you're finished. They don't need evidence.

reply

Yeah, but they turned in the drugs. Kingsley was perfectly willing to let them go. I'm saying that in Kingsley's eyes, if there were damning pictures, he wouldn't let them go, but the lack of said pictures alone would mean they're allowed to leave. I understand what you're saying about Russia, but we're talking about this particular case.

reply

Well, lack of evidence ain't usually evidence, not even in Russia. But lacking those pictures could still have made authorities more suspicious and launch a more thorough investigation, leading to a discovery of real evidence.

reply

Actually, reformatting the card (especially doing a few times) would probably be enough, unless a sophisticated agency really tried to retrieve them. Just deleting the pictures doesn't do much.

I actually thought she'd have deleted at least the Carlos pictures earlier. Having Gringkov page through the pictures until just before the incriminating ones was weak IMO.

reply

On the contrary, removing a few photos here and there creates gaps in the file numbering while emptying the card can be explained as a mistake and/or technical error. Still, as pointed out by others, the deleted contents could still be recovered.

reply

True, they could. But if there was no heavy suspicion and real reason to confiscate a memory stick and recover its contents in a computer lab of some sorts, most authorities wouldn't bother. Although the character wasn't probably meant to be considering such facts anyways, she just acted on instinct.

reply

Hmmm... I seem to remember her changing memory sticks in the camera so, I don't think she deleted all of her pictures of the trip, just the ones on that memory stick.

I didn't think it was that weird. She really only would have been deleting the photos from the last few days or so. People who take that many photos have a LOT of cards to store the photos on. She could easily fill up a card in a day and replace it the next morning. Nobody would look at her camera and be like "Where are the photos?" They would assume they're on another card somewhere.
