Most unrealistic parts

This movie completely lost me over two unrealistic events. First, how was Wyatt able to pop up in Jonathan's bedroom? That's simply ridiculous. He would have had to break into the apartment, hide somewhere in the bedroom and sit there for who knows how long without making a single sound until Jonathan woke up.

But even more ridiculous is the climax in the park. It's central Madrid in the daytime, Wyatt pulls out a gun, Sunbeam shoots him before he can shoot Jonathan, he dies in a pool of blood AND THE PARK IS EMPTY AND NO ONE NOTICES!!!!!! GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!! I have been to Spain and I have never seen a park completely empty on a nice day. And then Jonathan just casually walks away from there to go woo Sunbeam.

Right.

I agree with the park scene. The fact she pulls a gun without a silencer and shoots without a single spectator was cheese.

As far as breaking into the apartment, remember that he's a professional conman and thief. He obviously knew a thing or two about picking locks. It's not hard to do relatively quickly if you have the skills, especially with a pick gun.

as for me, it's from the beginning already making nonsense !!

is it just coincidence he use sex-underground to deceive ? and why that blonde woman (wall street journalist) had to die ?

how come he manage to enter an office with fake title, fake house without any trouble..

well it's okay if there're only few mysteries, but this is too much nonsense.

it's listed in number 5 of 10 worst movies 2008 and i agree with it.

ugh... when I picked the movie at Blockbuster I knew it wouldn't be very good cuz I had never heard of it before... so my expectations were pretty, but after watching the whole loooong, dragged out movie I was more than deceived by all the nonsense going on in there...

I'd love to go into detail about what I thought was ridiculous about the movie... but it would be tooo long and i'd fall asleep on my keyboad... so all i'll say is this movie was garbage...

i love me

This one is easy.

I've worked in one of those huge law firms. If you can get a card key, there are so many people working in them at all hours (lawyers, assistants, paralegals, general staff, and temp workers), that it wouldn't be that difficult to fake your way around. And anyone can have business cards made up to say anything.

Spoiler ahead

I had moderate hopes because the cast was so good. But the acting, dialogue, plot, and absence of chemistry amongst any of the actors pretty much ruined it for me. Was there ANYONE who thought Jonathon was really dead after the explosion? I sure didn't.

And was Michelle Willams THAT captivating? I thought the first sex club woman (the one who was subsequently murdered) was just as pretty. And why didn't Ewan take the $$? Apparently no one is in the park in Madrid at noon to witness a murder so no one would have noticed him taking the $$.

Ugh.

Some of the plots were a bit unrealistic, but I thought the acting was just fine, and I enjoyed the film.

And I don't think it is one of the worst films of 2008..

That to me was the silliest part. Definitely.

The movie lost me when the NYPD Detective came to the hotel. Apparently, she was sick the day they taught police investigation techniques at school. She should have, among other things:

1. Assumed that Jonathan may have been disoriented from the blow to his head and cut him some slack until she could figure out more of what was going on.

2. Assumed that Johnathan may have been disoriented from possibly being drugged and cut him some slack until she could have had him examined at a hospital where a drug screen, as well as a complete examination could have been performed. Remember, Jonathan wanted to cooperate.

3. Asked Johnathan some relevant questions such as:
-When did you first meet this woman?
-Where did you first meet this woman?
-How did you first meet this woman?
-Describe all of your contacts with this woman from the first time you saw her until right now.
-How did you communicate with this woman.

All of this would have lead to the fact that Jonathan and the woman (and other relevant characters) had communicated on a cell phone which she could have taken for a "phone dump." The phone dump and the answers to good investigative questions would have provided her with significant leads as to what was really going on. That is how crimes get solved. Police (including movie police) should not expect some guy who says he just got busted on his noggin to lay out all the answers for them in a neat package.

4. Asked herself why Jonathan was making up what she obviously felt was some phony story about a woman in trouble. What motive would he have to do that? Either he was a nut job who was making up one hell of a story, or something was going on. Being an idiot, she decided to believe that Jonathan was just a nut job who was making up one hell of a story. I guess she thought that he had knocked himself out. Possible. Highly unlikely.

I could go on but my point is this: I am willing to suspend disbelief as much as the next guy but this movie just took it way too far.

And how marvelous that nerdy accountant Jonathan, despite narrowly escaping death, was able to secure a fake passport and get an airline ticket quickly enough to arrive in Spain just minutes after Wyatt.

That was Madrid'd Retiro park, virtually the only big park in the city centre, and yes, you're right, it's very hard to find it empty, but on weekdays in winter it's not that rare. Besides, there are some parts of the park that are more isolated and deserted than others. I can assure you that it's not that difficult to find an empty spot, I've been there hundreds of times. Actually, when I watched that scene the only thing I found weird is that Jonathan had found Wyatt.

reply

So, of all the unrealistic events in this movie, you chose those 2?

1) entering a cheap apartment is easy

2) before they go to the park they explicity say "lets go somewhere safe" or something along the lines. Some park in madrid was empty OMFG!.

reply

Here are two big ones.

Wyatt has a passport with Jonathan's info but his Wyatt's photo. Since he has been planning this for months, it is plausible he applied for a new passport as Jonathan and attached his photo. He had access to his apartment, so he stole the passport when it arrived. But Jonathan gets a passport with Wyatt's name on it. He only had a day of advanced notice to get this passport. Also, their two passports have the exact same date of birth.

Wyatt gets his hands on a gun with a silencer hours after arriving in Madrid. Did Michelle Williams get the guns while she was hiding out in Madrid? Maybe, but then why is she surprised when he pulls a gun?

And one more, the strict rules of the club include "no names." Why does Maggie Q know Wyatt's real name, and his full name?

She didn't meet him through the club. They met at a convention and then she introduced him to the club. That's whyt she said she was his "first".
